Alienware vs Acer are two opposite ends of the spectrum. Alienware is a premium brand, and Acer is low quality. By that, I don't just mean quality of components and build quality. The biggest differences are in cooling and thermal management.

Alienware has a very good cooling design, to control thermals, especially the 17 inch model, which has great heat dissipation.

This allows:
1. much less thermal throttling
2. higher wattage power fed into the graphics card
3. greater frame rates, and better performance

If you want a better idea of actual gaming performance, look at the wattage of the power supply, how much power the laptop supplies to the discrete graphics, and then look at actual frame rate and benchmark numbers from online reviews and YouTube videos.

This is the reason why you won't ever see 14" laptops with 4090 graphics accelerators. They can't handle the heat, can't supply enough power to the graphics, and even if they do try to squeeze it in, these laptops suffer from horrible thermal throttling.

The other comment is correct. These laptops are designed for different purposes. A 17" laptop is far less portable. Ever try taking a 17" laptop with a bag and power supply on an airplane? Setting it up on the seat? You will see how impractical it is, and where a 14" or 15" laptop make more sense. However, if you have it sitting 95% of the time on AC power as a desktop replacement, then the 17" with super high refresh is ideal for gaming, especially FPS. 17" is much more comfortable for long term use than 14 or 15".

So decide what kind of laptop you have a need for, and then find the best deal for a laptop in that segment. Don't go chasing after the best "deal" and end up with a laptop that is impractical for your daily use!

This is a great deal, but that 1080p 300nits display is lackluster..

Just skimming the 2... what pops out is that Acer is a 15" with a higher resolution screen Alienware is 17" with a lower resolution screen. Acer has a 10 key which has pros and cons, if you need 10 key it can be nice if you don't then it throws the keyboard way off center relative to the screen which can be annoying. Hardware wise they are pretty similar the performance on either looks like it is going to be within 5-10% on everything and most things are pretty much even.
Personally I don't like Acer but honestly every companies quality control seems to be total garbage now so I can't really hold it against just them anymore.

Which deal and for how much? "70" what?
I believe it was $1170, so after $70 it's about $1100…Perhaps I would say this deal is a bit better

This is the original Alienware deal i wanted but missed. I wanted to go the amd route due to all the talk about new Intel chips running hot.

Got the aw 3070ti deal coming monday.
Return it. It's that simple. Good thing about Buying electronics is that if you are not satisfied you can always return it!

I really wanted to buy this but I just contacted customer support and this doesn't have n-key rollover. Who makes a laptop geared for gamers but doesn't include n-key rollover?

Can you tell me why it doesn't work? I have been trying to find a good deal on a laptop to replace my desktop. My desktop GPU sux, but I've been wanting to get something that my Quest 2 would work with.

Would this not work with the Quest 2?

Thanks.
Because the display port is not connected to the discreet GPU

What? It worked perfectly fine with my USBc to dp in discrete display card mode(integrated DP is disabled)
It would not work with mine I worked with Dell tech support and they confirmed it.
When we disabled the amd driver the index went blank. Do you connect yours to a vr headset?

It's so sad that they didn't offer mechanical keyboard on this model! For the Nvidia DP they have the keyboard option available! Sad!

I have this on the previous deal. Great laptop! Just randomly freeze for about 1 seconds no matter how I reset and reinstall windows with usb. It feels like the AMD problem.

You are basing on your needs. 360hz helped a LOT during FPS. It's like comparing apple and orange. 480hz is not that noticeable though but you can still feel the difference when you are moving and want to see the guy camping somewhere.
Your references to FPS games seems to me to be the more tailored to your own needs kind of comments. How about instead of attacking the one comment you just state your own thoughts on how his laptop would perform for FPS games.

Not bad but an Intel i7-12700h outperforms this processor. I recently got an m15 with the i7 from Dell outlet for well under a grand, that is if you don't mind scratch and dent/refurb. Although they always look 100% mint. At this moment I don't see a great selection of these on the outlet though.

The build quality on these Alienware is pretty good IMO and they look great. They often get criticized for the screen. But the screen is totally fine as far as I'm concerned and I'm not going to be gaming on the built in screen anyway unless I have to. It will be plugged into my 27 inch monitor usually. Although I actually bought it more for Audio production which it performs great at.

When using the coupon, I get "Your order does not qualify for this coupon." Anyone else getting that?

Try updating all of your drivers.
Have installed all drivers by the win11 automatic route and the "install drivers one by one" route with internet off. All not solving. The problem may be caused by AMD's security bios setting. It's quite common. I returned it and ordered this instead. To me, it's a better deal considering with $200 more, you have 6900 vs 6800, 6850mxt vs 3060, 32gb vs 16gb, 1tb vs 512gb. Just hope these have a better resale value though. My windows laptops all have very bad resale value compared with MacBook.

Is this a good deal? I haven't been keeping up with laptop prices but half off from whatever that fake MSRP is. The 1080p wouldn't bother me as I use a 4k external

The price looks good to me, but I am not used to the AMD CPU and GPU combo, so I order it along with the Acer Predator Helios 300:

Can anyone briefly give the pros and cons of these two products if possible, so I can decide? Much appreciated.
The AMD cpu and that 6850m are excellent for 1080p max settings. I'm running a 5800HS and RTX 3060 ROG laptop, and that combo is great on 1080p, this is a step up for sure.
