Alienware vs Acer are two opposite ends of the spectrum. Alienware is a premium brand, and Acer is low quality. By that, I don't just mean quality of components and build quality. The biggest differences are in cooling and thermal management.

Alienware has a very good cooling design, to control thermals, especially the 17 inch model, which has great heat dissipation.

This allows:
1. much less thermal throttling
2. higher wattage power fed into the graphics card
3. greater frame rates, and better performance

If you want a better idea of actual gaming performance, look at the wattage of the power supply, how much power the laptop supplies to the discrete graphics, and then look at actual frame rate and benchmark numbers from online reviews and YouTube videos.

This is the reason why you won't ever see 14" laptops with 4090 graphics accelerators. They can't handle the heat, can't supply enough power to the graphics, and even if they do try to squeeze it in, these laptops suffer from horrible thermal throttling.

The other comment is correct. These laptops are designed for different purposes. A 17" laptop is far less portable. Ever try taking a 17" laptop with a bag and power supply on an airplane? Setting it up on the seat? You will see how impractical it is, and where a 14" or 15" laptop make more sense. However, if you have it sitting 95% of the time on AC power as a desktop replacement, then the 17" with super high refresh is ideal for gaming, especially FPS. 17" is much more comfortable for long term use than 14 or 15".

So decide what kind of laptop you have a need for, and then find the best deal for a laptop in that segment. Don't go chasing after the best "deal" and end up with a laptop that is impractical for your daily use!

This is a great deal, but that 1080p 300nits display is lackluster..

Just skimming the 2... what pops out is that Acer is a 15" with a higher resolution screen Alienware is 17" with a lower resolution screen. Acer has a 10 key which has pros and cons, if you need 10 key it can be nice if you don't then it throws the keyboard way off center relative to the screen which can be annoying. Hardware wise they are pretty similar the performance on either looks like it is going to be within 5-10% on everything and most things are pretty much even.
Personally I don't like Acer but honestly every companies quality control seems to be total garbage now so I can't really hold it against just them anymore.

You mean the 10% coupon you get by signing up for the email newsletter? You can try using a different email address, but that's about it.
Different email worked for some reason! Ty! Only thing I'm worried about is the display 😕 everyone saying its not great has me at pause.

I bought the 3060 version of this exact laptop for $749 2 weeks back. Wish I'd gotten this one instead...dang.

For anyone here, Was anyone ever able to deselect the premium bundled support before purchase? See my invoice shows they think that crap is worth almost $150 and thereby devalued the laptop price accordingly on the same invoice.

750 is a good enough price that you could probably sell it without losing money if you really wanted to.

It is a big and heavy laptop, 7.3lbs without the charger. I personally wouldn't want to drag that with me to school every day. Then again, if you were to get this laptop, it does have great battery life According to reviews, 7-9 hours of light use.

It is big and heavy: about 7.5 lbs for laptop alone plus another 2+ lbs for the largish power supply.
Wow, that is quite heavy for a laptop. My commute to school takes about 1.5 on the bus and lots of walking. Plus, I finally finished general ed class so this fall semester I'm gonna be going over my major in CS. So I need a laptop that can do coding, homework, and gaming.I guess I will wait for something lighter with about the same specs, because I have been gaming on my 16yr laptop and it's been unberable. The only games I can play without crashing or freezing is stardew valley, don't starve together, travellers rest, basically super light indie games. It has also been terrible for school, I've lost papers when it crashed but which I learned to save every time I type something, but I finally saved enough to treat myself with something nice Smilie

How much better is this 12GB card compared to 6GB RTX 3060 I got in real world if I'm staying at 1080p res? Per my previous comments, trying to decide if this one is worth returning my last purchase and ponying up another $300... obviously don't want to hassle

I'm fairly in the dark on most of these terms, are you saying it's not that great for price point, and there's another model that's potentially faster for same price?
The new gen of AMD CPUs are significantly faster than the 6000 series. I was sharing the information, since both are available.

It's very difficult to remain up to date with laptops, because they become outdated very quickly. This Alienware has great specs. However if your work cosnists of CPU bound tasks it's worth waiting for a faster laptop.

You have 30 days from the day it was shipped, no restocking fee. Not sure what the rest of the specs are for your machine, but the 6850m xt performs about on par with a 3070ti sometimes 3080ti. So yes, quite a bit faster, not to mention 12gb of vram vs 6gb on the 3060.

Question for those who know, this will be a gaming desktop replacement. My question is should I opt for this or a custom desktop with these specs:
12th gen i7
Rtx 3070
16gb ram
2tb ssd

I keep hearing that mobile can't be compared like for like with desktops and that laptops can get hot and loud so I'm hoping someone on here can give a more relative comparison of the two.

It does indeed stack, it's how I'm ending up at $839 after tax.

Any recommendations on a second hard drive for this? I was looking for 2GB or higher with a decent heat sink, but I couldn't tell if the covers on this had a built in heat sink. Any feedback would be appreciated.
