Walden Mutual Bank (Concord, New Hampshire) has announced that they will be offering an FDIC insured 100-year CD paying 4.75% with various options including non amortized interest (i.e., the interest pays out each year). 10-year interest penalty for early withdrawal.

Not my personal couple of tea, but could be part of a balanced portfolio.

Every major empire has had a currency collapse. Many around the 100 year mark. Usually these empires devalue the currency due to money printing (inflationary pressures). Oh look at that... the national debt is at 33 trillion. In a few years the interest on our debt alone will be crippling. Oh and look at that... the U.S. dollar has been around for about 80 years now. Do we still have 20 years in the tank left? hmmmm.

I think you'd have to be quite crazy to trust the zoo keepers running our zoo for that long. Raise your hand if you think the national debt is going to be paid down? ***crickets***.
