The battery on these cameras are not as big, so you want to pick up a few spares.
I have the Kastar ones for my M6 which is the same battery as RP and they work great.

How's this camera as an occasional portrait for outdoor photography?
outdoor photography is a pretty broad category. The images can be gorgeous. If you're thinking a camera for any scenario outdoors, I don't know if I would use this camera. It's great for most scenarios.
The dynamic range isn't great for those that like to be extreme with their exposures. If you're the type to expose for the sky and then raise the shadows, you'll be fine especially with the newer versions of Photoshop and Lightroom, but if you're the type to severely underexpose, this isn't the camera for you.
The eye autofocus is great as long as the scene isn't too dark. It can hunt a lot in the dark.
But let's keep things in perspective. No camera at $599 will come close to this camera. I use this as my backup to my R5. Once the R5 Mark II comes out, my R5 will become the new backup camera. But I have no regrets in grabbing the RP if my R5 is unavailable (like when I have a partner filming with the R5 while I'm taking photos).
The only no-no scenarios for this RP camera is very low light (due to AF issues) and fast moving subjects because it only shoots like 4 frames a second. It can do well in low light for environments or using spot/point focus. But if you're a big fan of eye AF, that fails in low light on this camera.

LP-E17 Battery [ebay.com]
I would pick up 2 with the charger for $22.
