Have had these for over three years and they're still pretty good. Granted they don't get a crazy amount of use outside of keeping a water bottle every night, but still.
A year? What are you planning to use it for, a diving board? It's a desk. It sits there and holds books or cups. I've got particleboard furniture that's 20+ years old, and some of it has moving parts like drawers or doors. How are you breaking this in one year?

I have similar one with low expectations. Yes particle board is the cheapest you can go. Mine has been going strong for 5+ years without any damage. I have a lamp and a few other light weight items. I wouldn't put anything heavy or any cups on it, as it would stain pretty easily or bubble.
I wouldn't want to put one in a guest room or in the public area, knowing how delicate it may be. But definitely suitable for my needs in the bedroom.
Another pro is that it is light and when it's time to get rid of it, it's easy to smash.
As for the price, I wouldn't want to pay much knowing the material is cheap. I can't say this price is good.
We've had the white version in our teens room now for around ... Lawd ... She was in 4th grade when we redid her room and she'll be a Senior this year, so it's lasted.
Lamp, water bottles, art supplies in the lower section.
Yes, they are cheap, but it has served a purpose for us for a pretty long time.
