This looks like a really good gaming laptop deal per the specs, ram aside.

Am I missing something?

Specs and pricing are great, you are correct. This performs on about the same level of the desktop GTX 1080 (non-Ti), AMD RX 6600 (non-XT), or mobile 3070Ti. The reviews do complain about fan noise and heat, which I would have expected. I have a Dell Vostro with 3050Ti that has horrible heat issues, so maybe I am just expecting that from all low/mid "gaming" laptops?

Might be worth getting a nice laptop cooler:

There are plenty of laptops with far better hardware with this exact same display. The statement you gave basically has no logic. All these budget laptops have to cut corners in some areas and in most cases these sub $800 gaming laptops do that in display department. If you need a better display, you need to pay more, as simple as that.

The performance is more or less equivalent to a RTX 3060 Mobile GPU with full 140W Power, and below RTX 3070 Ti. Jarrod's tech has done a dedicated comparsion between RTX 3060 Mobile and RTX 4050 Mobile which you can check out.

I completely ignored the wattage and looks like you are spot on. Thank you for your informative and polite reply.

If you just play to game on 1080p, this should be fine. Anything higher, VRAM becomes an issue.

If you don't like the screen it comes with, you can just pick up a 27 inch 1080p 165hz monitor for $100-$130. Either way the screen will cost more so you decide whether you want it on the laptop or externally.

45% NTSC needs to die. I can deal with 250 nits but can't deal with washed out, black=gray colors. The screen is the one part you actually look at for hundreds or thousands of hours. Not worth it to cheap out on it.
