what's the point of these again? $67 for a 1.7 ah battery? I have a 6AH battery on FB marketplace right now and nobody is biting.

This is a 1.7ah powerstack battery. Look them up, 1.7ah powerstack is roughly equivalent to the standard 5ah batteries we have been using with the standard lithium cells

It puts out the same power as a 5ah but only has the run time of 1.7ah

It's great on tools for which you want the light weight and small size of little single stack battery but need the power output of a larger and heavier double stack battery.

PS has its uses. It's awesome on the ratchet and for drills where you need extra power but not runtime. That said, if you are on a budget, just get some 2s and some 5s. PS batteries are really expensive. They do promise much longer time before degradation though, so there is that.

There is a good video comparison of the tech; not the specific batteries, unfortunately.

What tool do you need high power output but only for 1.7ah? Only my lawn mower seems to need more power output than the old style 2ah can provide but using 1.7ah batteries to mow the lawn would be like fighting a forest fire with a gallon bucket.
A few examples and use cases have already been stated. Essentially any tool that benefits from the power but you don't need the longevity or just want the lighter weight/size you get with the PS batteries.. I use my PS batteries with my 1/2in impact wrenches since I am only using them for a short while while working on my personal vehicles..

I don't see the value in PowerStack batteries. Such low amp hours, they are used up very quickly. I understand they would be more comfortable in a drill that you were using all day but if you need to actually use the drill all day you'll need an entirely new ecosystem of PowerStack batteries to keep you running. I really don't see the actual usefulness of them.

Edit: One use Is that this is my go to for something that needs recharged more often. Since these have more cycles, it is the first go to from the pile, allowing me to cycle this one into my day twice or three times as many times as the others.

That makes little monetary sense to me, to buy these at inflated price versus say a 5AH. I don't need a "light but powerful" battery to take off 20 lug nuts with a 1/2" impact gun. The extra weight savings means nothing for a short job, then I have to muscle down a 40 pound wheel. My circular saw or hammer drill benefits from the more powerful battery, and those are not light weight tools that require a lot of finesse to begin with. I guess the PS have their place but the price/benefit ratio ain't there.

FYI price up to $70 and it says only 5 left.

NEVERMIND it went to a 3rd-party seller. Looks like Amazon as seller is still available but it was down in the other sellers list with longer delivery time.

I feel like a lot of the "armchair tool users" are the ones that decry the 1.7ah power stack. For a hardcore (ie for their job) user they may be an issue, but for most DIY types and for many regular tool users 1.7ah is more than enough to get through a day of use. I can wander the junkyard all day picking crap off cars with one and still have 3 bars at the end of the day for example. I'm not using it a whole lot, but it's a whole lot nicer than when I don't have it like the other day and had to lug around the 6ah flexvolt instead. As the other poster correctly stated, it's got almost the same power output as the 5ah double stack but in a package smaller than the 1.5/2.0 ah. I keep wanting a deal on a 5ah powerstack but honestly I might just get another 1.7 the tools where I want the advantages of PS don't use so much juice that it's that much of an issue, and they're starting to get pretty cheap. I believe as a point of reference they were as cheap as 45$ for a battery alone on WOOT around the holidays though, so this is a good but not earth shattering deal.
