Why have these increased in price so much? The per wH price of these is out of wack. They don't even include a built-in bms. It's plastic plus individual cells.

they did not increase. this is just a shit price. these were $40-$45 a pop during fathers day at multiple places. they give these away for free very often. most recently there was a sale for DCF850, dewalt's most powerful 1/4" impact, for $120 and it came with this battery. DCF850 is "normally" $150 by itself

Not that great a price. Woot just had these, plus DCB115 charger and bag, for $114 with Prime Discount ($125 without)

I'd love to see proof these were 40-45 dollars or "free" at retail as I watch dewalt pricing closely and this isn't an all time great deal, but it's as cheap as they generally get any given day, even from most resellers that are breaking kits. The only time they are free is bundled with tools selling at MSRP. Even your example deal, the DCF850 can be had for more like 100 by itself from time to time, but for those lacking a time machine and/or not wanting to re-sell a bunch of tools, this is about as cheap as these ever get by themselves, despite what you're asserting. The woot deal mentioned is nice if true but must have been short lived as there's no evidence of it here.

Are these the same ones that go on sale at Fasteners inc and other vendors for a bit less? Or are these the new powerstack ones?

This looks like it may be cheaper per battery if you need just one:

These are the regular ones and that deal was a price mistake that lasted about an hour.

Yeah hard to compete with the price mistake. These are a good deal if you need them now. And can't beat Amazon for convenience and shipping speed either.

If not, waiting for one of the starter kits would be even slicker. I got in on this in January for 2x 5ah with accessories and I got another similar deal from that seller maybe 6-12 months before that.

Yeah if they stay in stock even at 58 bucks without discount code they're a better deal which is always good. It looks like they maybe are cancelling orders for double dipping discounts and then adding stock back. We may see some more deals with prime day coming as well.

Honest question, how do the multitude of generic "Dewalt compatible" batteries compare to the real deal? They're out there for half the price, maybe they're lying about Ah rating but still...

At best, they're probably lying about amp-hours and have cheap cells in them that won't handle as many charge cycles. At worst, they'll burn your house down.
