I can answer some of the questions here as I've had the 3800 for a few months and added Dirac. In my room and setup Dirac was a big improvement over my own post-Audyssey tuning. That said, if you have the time, patience, and interest, there are cheaper ways to get most of the way there. I feel the price of the software and mic was worth it.

I came from a 3500 and liked it a lot. This has a better UI, including a 4K OSD and much better HEOS screen. I don't really get the complaints about the look of the volume meter. It's simple and functional and looks better than the one on my 3500.

I run a 5.1.2 setup in a 16 x 20 room with Focal speakers and an SVS sub, and I have more than enough power to make listening uncomfortable.
These receiver deals always make me miss Frys
Wowsers, $1k for a new non-refurbished 3800? That's what I'm talking about. Maybe by Black Friday this year I can afford it... Congrats to everyone who will be getting it now for this price.

Good deal on a 9 channel amp. Denon is a solid choice for audiophiles on a budget.

Dang. I was holding out for another x4800 for $1600 but this may be more than enough at the right price.

Use the money saved to get DIRAC, and then tell me how it went. I got mine on BF for $1,400. Haven't got DIRAC yet, wife agro dispel is still on the reset counter…

Is this overkill for a 5.1.4? I haven't picked the speakers yet, but I'm committed to the 5.1.4 at this point

You're putting me on the damn spot, this was my threshold!!!

I was hoping for the 4800 under $1200 new 1st!
They just put to much value in this though!
Value? How you gonna go back down after hearing the 4800 drive your speakers?! No way jose...

No but you'll want some nice speakers... and likely add more once you hear how good it is Smilie

I'll say this in every thread, the thing that really bothers me is there apparently has been no improvement in the on screen display gui/graphics for things like mute and volume controls. This apparently looks as bad as my 6 year old X4400h.

agreed... Although I just use the denon remote app with my 6700 if I must. I'd rather see them improve that UI versus fumbling with buttons on a packed remote in my dark theater.

I'm using a x3400h with 5.1.2 and it sounds great. Getting this x3800h to bump up to 5.1.4 and HDMI 2.1 x6 inputs. I have Polk LSiM 707's, 706c, and SVS Elevations (plus 2x SVS 3000 Micro subs). Very well matched speakers. Very full sound. Possibly overkill, but I like them.
