Btw, it's pixel shifting, so not true 4k.

Avs did a blind test and the Epson 5050ub and this projector beat the JVC nx5 and nx7 in quality, so don't get to caught up on this...

I sold my nx7 and switched to a 5050 and was able to use the extra cash to cover some solid amount of my sound treatment bill. I can personally say I don't notice degradation, if anything I appreciate the brightness for hdr, that is noticeable (obviously won't compete with the oled in the living room though....)

A ton of people on Sd picked up 11000's for $3399 w/ no tax for many states from this thread and also other projectors like the 12000 and the Sony 6000 "B" stock (full 3 yr warranty) for $6600 which is a flat out steal since it goes for $12K+

I have the 12000. In order to get the 12000 to really get humming you def need to get it to process Dolby Vision signals by using a Hdmi box to spoof the Hdr10 metadata going to it into LLDV. Once this is done, the 12000 is 100% better in picture quality and colors are popping off the screen. Just no way to have the 12000 do this w/out spoofing the HDR with LLDV.

Do you guys face strong feelings or recommendations for screens for the 11000 and 12000? Need to spend the $2500+ on one?

Is brightness more for this or 5050 on hdr?

It's just to let people know. I feel like false advertising if it is not obvious, regardless of the picture quality.
BTW, do you have a light controlled room? I heard Epson projectors are too bright for light controlled rooms. If you have a lot of natural lights in the room and need the brightness, I can understand, but if you have a light controlled room, then in my opinion stepping down from a NX7 to 5050 to save money is not wise considering you didn't really save money (because you lost value of what you paid for the NX7, unless you got a crazy good deal on it and sold it for what you paid).

Was their blind test in a brightly lit lounge room? There's no way LCD tech can match LCOS in a light controlled room and the black levels would've been instantly observable to anyone except the blind.

Is there a noticeable difference between this and 5050ub for extra 1K or not?

Just to be clear, its not a full native 4K display system internally, but with pixel shifting it displays a full 4K image. So it certainly is a true 4K projector. It also handles 4K 120Hz over HDMI 2.1

I'd get one of these but with the throw distance I have in my setup I'd only get 100" or so.

You want to use any semantics to justify it all you want, pixel shifting is not true 4k. Again, not saying whether this is better or worse than any specific projector, but I am just saying it is not a true 4k projector. You can change the definition of what is "true 4k" to justify your decision but no AV expert in the field would ever call this a "true 4k projector". They would all say a true 4k projector is a native 4k projector. So if the word true bothers you fine, let's say native.

There's always that guy.

That deal definitely seems like the way to go, but it's tax for us New Yorkers.

I had an LS11000 and really liked it, but I'm thinking these will continue to drop a bit more to fill that gap better between the 5050ub and the LS12000.

Does anyone have any insight into any places outside of New York that give good deals on these Epsons or was that this one dealer (I think Epson is pretty controlling with their pricing)?
