Think this is worth upgrading from a 3600x? Running a 650 watt power supply with a Radeon 3700. The calculators I've seen indicate the 3800x3d would require a bigger power supply (750+) and the chip itslef is $100 more...
Upgraded from a 2600 -- I absolutely love it. A lot of people talk about the 5800x and this could be considered obsolete, but, it draws less power and is excellent for productivity and gaming imo. I love it. Bought mine for around 200 and at this price I'd say go for it if you have a 1st or 2nd gen

Are you mostly gaming? Are you near a microcenter? The 5600x3d is a great chip if your primary use is gaming and priced at $230 but only at Microcenter. If you need the 2 extra cores, the 5700x is an incredible chip. Very low power usage and you will see a big increase IMO from 3600x. If you are just gaming however and want value, the 5600x will perform just as well as a 5700x in games and was as low as $133 on prime day and it comes with an adequate cooler that you can just use if you want to save $.

Thanks for the info. Microcenter isn't too far away, but I believe the power draw on the 3600x2d is similar to the 3800x3d, so both end up driving a new power supply. It's probably a 60% gaming 40% productivity machine, so the added capability on the productivity end definitely warrants the 5700 vs the 5600.
As far as the cooler, I'm not a big fan of the cooler that came with the 3600x... replaced it immediately with a CM Hyper 212. While it might cool fine, it's just annoyingly loud.
