My SO got this for our bedroom last year and I ended up getting the a Toshiba variant from Woot in May for my office. Very solid AC performance, but the remote controller works glitchy as hell at times, especially when trying to turn it on/off. The MSmarthome app is really glitchy too with shutting it on and off and scheduling basically works half the time unless you set it up with 24 hour time. Alexa integration is trash if you are not the primary account holder of the unit, but otherwise works. And finally, the temperature reading, from my unscientific tests, reads about 3-4 degrees lower than it really is, so an offset would be necessary if using it with home automation stuff. Agree with everything KevoD said too. I bought camper seal foam tape from Home Depot to augment the sealing (the default adhesive is super messy to remove), and it's worked great so far.

If you can deal with those first-world problems, highly recommended!

Bought this when it was posted last month and have enjoyed it so far. Cools great (temp goes as low as 60 degrees). Only two concessions are that it periodically gets kind of loud for 10-20 seconds during regular operation (without warning) which can be a bit annoying if you're on the phone, and the insulation where the hose attaches to the window bracket could be a little better to reduce exterior noise and air flowing in when the unit is off, but otherwise have no other complaints. I imagine the insulation issue is going to be universal for any portable AC, though.

It generates a lot of heat, that's for sure. It's nothing like a space heater. You can just imagine all of the heat that goes out the hose in A/C mode is reversed into the room. It will warm up a medium-sized room very quickly.

The downsides of the heat function are:

It only works if the temp outside is above 42 degrees. So depending on your climate this may only be useful for chilly spring and autumn days.
It generates a lot of condensate so you have to hook a hose up to the highest drain and empty the bucket every now and then.
When it's cold out, and the unit is not in use but still hooked up to the window, a lot of cold air is going to come in through the duct hose. This can also cause a lot of condensation to build up underneath the unit where the cold air pours out onto the floor. You really have to pull it out of the window and shut the window when it's not in use if it's cold outside.
Make sure you wrap the duct hose with the included sleeve if using heat mode, to prevent condensate from building on the duct hose.

Overall I would say it's good for chilly spring / autumn days where you need a little extra warmth but don't want to turn on the furnace, but not so useful for very cold days like in the dead of winter.

If you buy two of Midea you will get discounts of 150x2+100 (Costco Direct buy 2 items get 100 off) for a total of 400 bucks off! I tried it and saw it in the check-out. But I actually purchased one 6 days ago, any idea if I buy another one I can still get the 100 off?

(Amazon and home depot sell this for 700 bucks when I checked it 5 days ago)
Now people will exploit the system by buying two and returning 1. This is why good things can't happen.

Buying a portable AC is generally a bad idea. Since an AC is a heat pump, it can only bring the cold in, as much as it can get heat out. Regular ACs can efficiently get rid of heat, since they have fins outside the home, rather than a choked down pipe (think of breathing through a straw).

A window ac, however small, should perform better. In cases where seasonal usage is required, you can move a small window ac in and out a couple of times a year. I know my advice will fall on deaf ears, but like magsafe battery banks, this is a nice idea but it's not the norm because it's just not as good

Does this really run at 42dB? That's quieter than my U Window unit. How is that possible?
On the lowest setting, that's believable. On the highest setting, it's pretty loud.

If you can convince my HOA to allow window units, I'd much rather buy one of those than have one of these. These are for people who, for whatever reason, can't have a window unit.

Some of us cannot have stuff hanging outside the windows. Cooling is not only single deciding factor, thus portable.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank Rookies1000

I need to rant some more about the default adhesive foams that come with it, in case it can save someone from the hassle I just went through. I consider myself a patient man and this adhesive from hell frustrates me like no others. It's very sticky and fragile, will crumble in your hands leaving nasty residuals behind that can only be removed by a ton of hand scraping with very strong solvent. I'm glad my windows are old and will be replaced soon. Otherwise it can ruin your windows.

Wouldn't Costco just subtract the discount from the refund amount? I think that's how most retailers deal with these cases.

Discount will be split between the two units. You will receive $400 back. $50 off for you while you incurred shipping losses to Costco and also took the pains to haul this very heavy unit into your Truck or SUV to Costco.
Not worth at all.

Uses 1300w. 12k btu/hr = 3.51 kw. My local energy company cost is .06879. So cost to run is appx 24¢ - 25¢ /hr (excluding numerous surcharges and sales tax).

Does that sound right?

I've done this a few times before as long as it's within their time limit, they usually come through with the refund.
Price adjustment do they also refund the difference in tax too?

I have a garage that has no windows, what would be the most Logical way to install one of these in there? Honestly I'd prefer a mini split but they're still a pretty penny.
youtube got some install vids for rooms/garages without windows.

Maybe a silly question.. my windows are stupid short (18" wide?), the manual I found online said for windows 19" to 56" or something like that.. I assume I can still make it work on an 18" window (possibly with cutting if needed?) but interested in anyone who used it on a short window like that? Height is probably 30" but width is 18" and it opens vertically.

Also any idea on the hose length and just how sturdy it is? I have an older LG single hose and the hose will crack with almost any bending, so it needs to be held in one single spot.

Last question -- my LG hose needed to be wrapped with lots of insulation around the hose (the metallic wrap and tape) to prevent the exhaust heat from warming the room, would that be of any benefit to this type of model, or just run it as-is?
for 18 you can just cut off the divider, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCq3qSocraE

I didn't use the safety bracket they provided because that bracket looked pretty small and I didn't want to commit to drilling holes in the window for it. Rather, I purchased a window security bar [amazon.com]but honestly any straight metal bar would work as long as it fits your window. I also use mine upstairs and live in a safe neighborhood so I'm not terribly concerned about break-ins. If you're concerned about crime, I could understand not wanting one of these as it's very visible from the outside and your window does appear to look open when it's in place.
They can just push the divider in, pull the window down and the bar will fall off Frown

Is this in store as well?
For me I called the local stores and none of them have it, they said it's online only.

The vent is quite big for sliding window installation. It's about a football size 12" from one end to anther. The dual hose is not very bendy. The unit must be almost directly under the vent, not much room for flex.
I can't stress this enough

I just confirmed that directly with midea support my concern was lack of flexibility and length. This unit has only 4-5ft of hose the manual state it can be no more than like 9 inches away from the wall directly under a window.

Most normal dual hose (no hose in hose but sep) are 5-6ft long. The hisense I got a few days ago is right about 6ft which BARELY works to go around a small bookshelf under the window. Decided to stick with the hisense for that exact reason.

Tldr : hose is shorter than most separate dual hose units
