When I first bought this there was a problem where the battery would drain over the course of a day with minimal use. It was a common problem at the time but they sent me a replacement and/or updated firmware. Then Fitbit got rid of a lot of the social aspects of the app that made it fun like Fitbit bingo and competing for activity goals with friends and family (and was a big factor in me choosing a Fitbit). As others have said a lot of more advanced metrics are now behind a subscription. Ultimately wish I'd gotten a garmin and probably will once my charge 5 dies. The bait and switch for the Fitbit community stuff was awful and they never communicated a reason for it that made sense.

Keep in mind this has NO ALTIMETER which means no stair step counting. Charge 4 still has the Altimeter.

Anyone comment this vs the latest inspire?

Does it record the data the same way? Or does this have better readings?

How does this compare to the Halo? Mostly I'm wondering about the sleep tracking on it.

I have this tracker. I like it. Very basic. Tracks steps, sleep, time in active zone , heart rate.. tells you when you're ready for a work out and when to rest based on recent sleep and activity . Only downside is gps . Don't even use it. Turn it off when you get it otherwise it messes up heart rate tracking

FYI - Most advanced features will require a paid subscription after the trial period ends. It also does not sync advanced metrics/data to iOS health app.

How does this compare to amazfit. I am looking one for my 10 year old to encourage him running.. looks like amazfit 7 is better than this.

Not really sure. I haven't tried Amazfit as it doesn't sync with apple health either (which I need for my use case). For a 10yr old though, amazfit (or another kid friendly cheap tracker) does sound better than a fitbit.

Thanks for that info! How is that even possible? My charge 2 counts steps. Did they take it out on purpose?

Which advanced metrics are they and do other smartwatches like Garmin, Samsung, or Apple include the same stats without any monthly fee?

Warning... The heart rate sensor can be wildly off. When use while exercising it is up to 40bpm off at times. It'll say my heart rate is 110 when it is really 150 on treadmill.

My Charge 4 is falling apart, so I ended up buying a Charge 5, even though I'm not a fan of losing the altimeter, and the fact that it seems like we're due for a Charge 6 in a number of months based on historical release dates:
Fitbit Charge: November 2014
Fitbit Charge HR: January 2015
Fitbit Charge 2: September 2016
Fitbit Charge 3: August 2018
Fitbit Charge 4: March 2020
Fitbit Charge 5: August 2021

As for discussions about the Charge 5 vs Inspire 3:
I usually buy a smaller Fitbit for sleeping (e.g., Flex, Alta HR, now Inspire), and a larger one for daytime use (e.g., Surge, Ionic, Charge), and the app does a fine job of adding up the totals.

If I absolutely had to pick one, then I'd probably pick the Charge 5 because:
- ECG app is interesting
- GPS option for when I run without a phone
- Payment option for when I'm in the water without a phone
- Slightly larger screen is easier to read

If those four things are not important to you, then I'd get the Inspire 3, which is more compact, has 3 more days of battery life, costs $20 less, and is virtually identical in features beyond what's mentioned above.
