I have a ton of Kasa products running on some UniFi APs and I would say it's probably your WiFi APs causing the issues. Mine stay connected all the time, never a problem. Literally have never power-cycled them.

If your APs aren't up to the task, there's other ecosystems that use other communication technologies like Zigbee.

Kasa is also one of the cheaper ecosystems to jump into so I mean reliability may be sacrificed for the cost but mines been rock-solid.
You're in luck, there is an app
I've been in the TP-LINK ecosystem for years and have yet to have a plug fail on me or have connection issues. Wemo, Wyze, and Amazon plugs, on the other hand...

Bought the previous Gen (smart plug mini) 10-25-20 after daily use on the subwoofers it gave up the ghost a few months ago and couldn't be turned on manually or via voice/app. That said, 2.5 years for (then) 99c (some TP-Link promo) isn't bad and I'm buying another now to replace the fan switch that became the sub switch 🤪

When it comes to smartifying your home, either add one device for a specific task, or think VERY carefully about what company and app you are inviting in.
I just trashed $400 in various bulbs, hubs, (and Kasa devices) because I didn't like how they perform after power outages and internet drops. Several like Wemo have long since lost support from their parent companies.

FWIW, I switched entirely to Philips Hue and Amazon, figuring that these seemed like strong bets. The AZ plugs are about $11 now, but I have been very satisfied, they don't need a hub, my Echo Dots work with Eero as a mesh strengthener, the company isn't going anywhere, and plugs can't show me annoying ads.

I'm very interested in learning more about your comment "Echo Dots work with Eero as a mesh strengthener"...would you mind elaborating on this point? Thanks in advance!

Maybe these ultra versions are better, but my existing Kasa plugs cant hold a wifi connection worth a damn and have to be power cycled regularly, as do the bulbs. I won't buy anything kasa again.

Exactly my use case for some of these plugs. Handy to switch them off at night when everyone is sleeping

I have an Echo Dot and thinking about one of these smart outlets. But I don't have any lamps, only recessed LEDs, so I guess there's no point in one of these outlets? Can't really think of practical uses other than lights, since for most things I want to use, I'd be near the power switch on the device anyway.

I use the plugs for various tasks like automating a trickle charger on my motorcycle. Doesn't have to just be for lamps

You'd want to look at a smart light switch instead.

I'd say your right, except none of my other smart home devices have this problem. Only Kasa.

I love the concept of smart outlets but struggle to find useful things to do with them for outside of holiday decor. What do some of you use these for?

When I decided to start using smart outlets and switches years ago, I wanted to only deal with one company and one app. I chose Kasa and am very happy with their performance. I have not experienced any issues with connectivity and I have over 30 devices on my network (primarily at Christmas) - more like 20+ through the year. I also have a couple pan/scan cameras which have performed flawlessly. This a great deal for a 4 pack and would have no problem recommending them to a friend or family member.
