Yeah I'm looking to get a 4tb drive and really unsure about Acer drives. I know they've been around for a long time but….

Doing some reading it -seems- this drive is decent. I've gone ahead and ordered one myself.

Oh and the funny name seen under seller is actually the manufacturer of the drive before Acer slaps their name on it, at least according to a few posts on Reddit.

I'm in dilemma between this and WD 850x. Latter is on sale for $230.. I need two 4TB SSD's. So, getting these will save me $60 in total

Performance of this drive seems similar to WD 850x (as per Tomshardware review) except power efficiency.

Any suggestions for my purchase?

I can't really give too much advice. But the quick reading I did the acer seems like a really nice drive with good micron(I think that's what I read) memory and a good controller.

Doing a bit more reading it kind of seems the WD might be a little faster. I'm kind of wishing I would have seen the WD first. They already shipped my acer order, I think it will still end up being a good drive.

Which drive would be better in an enclosure? I've tried to put drives in enclosures that got too hot before. I want to put a few 4 tb drives I'm my PC right now so no worries about heat. But I will likely start using a Mac at some point and want to pull the drives from my PC and put them in an enclosure for the Mac.

It's more about the enclosure, you want one that comes with heat sink compound along the entire length of the ssd and makes firm contact with the heatsink (case, fins).

It's not a gen 4 drive, but the SK Hynix P31 is the coolest running drive on the market. If you're going to keep it in an enclosure, PCIe gen 4 is pointless, as neither USB4 nor Thunderbolt come anywhere close to the speeds of PCIe gen 4x4. Thunderbolt tops out a little under the speeds of PCIe gen 3. Every gen 4 drive runs hot and is going to be much heat for sustained writes in an enclosure.
Edit: meant to say Thunderbolt tops out below PCIe gen 3 speeds.

Isn't the enclosure supposed to act as the heatsink ? But yeah, sticking a gen 4 in an enclosure is a waste of money. I tried several.

This drive is a rebranded one, Biwin tech (the OEM) will handle the RMA, same as the HP version
Both brands will not be involved in the RMA process.

Not sure if it's helpful or not but my husband recently purchased the WD 850x along with this.

GRAUGEAR M.2 2280 SSD Heatsink, Direct-Touch Heat of Dual Copper Heat Pipes, 25 mm Cooling Fan Built-in PWM Control, Aluminum Plate-Fin Design, Thermal Pads incl. Cooler for M.2 NVMe/SATA[G-M2HP04-F] https://a.co/d/afxA9Hh.

He's very happy with the performance.

with 10/12% cashback they are similar price bracket. I'd go with WD 850X.

Well…not yet. The USB4 v2 spec finalized last year and whatever the next version of Thunderbolt is will have more than enough bandwidth to max out a PCIe 4x4 tunnel. No idea when we'll see any products using them though.

This is actually a very good drive. Most of the 4tb ones we see for $160-180 are in the lower tiers of NVMe drives.

I am getting close to the need for a 4tb, I have two 2tb drives that are almost full. Planing to wait for BF to see if this caliber of drive will get down to $175 or so.
