These processors have crazy heat issues. I have a friend that says avoid at any price.

I see you're right on that, thanks. It still looks great for my needs for an overclocked GPU/CPU system for AI dev. I will watercool though because of this.

Not worth it unless you actually need the cores for a server/workstation imho.

You'll get better performance gaming on a non-integrated GPU core i5 which when watercooled can do 5.4ghz+ all day long on a single core.

This beast will be lucky to do spec.

Is it a Ddr5 motherboard? Then avoid it with the 12th gen cpu. The memory controller in the 12th gen is not as good as the 13th gen, and your OC luck with ddr5 ram is hit and miss. The 12th gen cpu is better combo with the ddr4 motherboard.

Could you mind explaining in a little more detail about why some ddr5 motherboards would be less capable at utilizing the ram than other DDR5 motherboards?

This is wrong, this processor is a K model, so it allows full unlocking, so if you put no lock on the power and it takes 320+w then you better have a cooler that can handle that much.
My 13900k works fine and stays in the 80°s when running benchmarks, which is not real world usage.
Gaming is 60s or below.

If your looking for a white MB but are having trouble, this is close, it's mostly silver but in a white case it looks white. Plus it's a solid Z690 board.

I have a 12900K in a SFF build with only a 240mm AIO, there are no heat issues. Your friend probably has posters of Lisa Su on the wall.

I have a 13900KS so I know what real heat is like, the 12900K is nowhere near it. Even running R23, a 12900K is a good 20-30C below a 13900KS in terms of thermals. If you're concerned about thermals buy a cheap $11 contact frame (because the ILM on 12/13th gen causes CPU bowing) and use thermal paste that doesn't pump out after 2 weeks.

I used to have my 12900K in a full custom loop but it wasn't required since it's obviously doing peachy in a SFF now with only a paltry 240mm AIO. This is a good price for it, just don't pair with any crazy fast DDR5 due to the IMC not being as good as Raptorlake.

These are very easy to cool if you actually set the voltage correctly. If you have a motherboard that overvolts and you don't know what you're doing then yeah they can be a bit of a handful. Any decent 280 rad will work
