They shouldn't -- there are no seeds in the kit. Maybe the liquid fertilizer would harden up after a few years worse case presuming there is a tiny bit of air under the foil seal...

What's a good thing to use this for? I have an aerogarden but we didn't use herbs enough to make it worth it.

Would carnivorous plants grow in this?

You can also salad greens/lettuces, tomatoes, and peppers. I think using an aerogarden as a hacked hydroponic system for houseplants would be overkill.

Most of those knockoff systems have slightly wider holes but I think the pods will be fine. The reservoirs might be smaller and require a different measuring method for the nutrients. But you could mix a gallon per instructions then pour in rather than mix in the reservoir.

this is a solid deal, just grow sponges off aliexpress cost $12 and a full kit without fertilizer costs nearly $20.

Tomatoes and any kinds of peppers grow really well in these. Just use smaller varieties that won't completely outgrow it.
