Terabytes Written. The warranty of SSDs are based on a time period and the amount of data written to the drive (whichever comes first). The warranty ends when one of the two conditions is met. Even though this drive has a 5 year warranty, if you were to write 800TB to the drive in the first year (unlikely), the warranty would be expired. It'll take most users a few years to write that much data to a drive, but 800TBW is incredibly low for a drive of this capacity. Most people look at the TBW as an endurance rating. The higher the TBW, the longer the drive is likely to last. I wouldn't use this drive as an OS drive, since Windows will be regularly writing to the drive and Trimming it (moving data around by deleting data and rewriting it in other places on the drive for faster future writes). It's probably alright for a secondary drive, though.

I need to fill a SATA port on a mini pc, would it be worth getting this and using it with a SATA adapter over a similarly priced 2.5 SATA drive? Would there be any performance benefit?

Depends on your application. If you're doing a ton of writes to the drive, yes, avoid it. For a secondary storage drive, it's perfect.

TG looks better on paper but is older nand and runs hot
P3 looks worse on paper but is newer and runs cool
So part of it depends on needs. If you do lots of writes and don't care about heat, go TG. If you do mostly reads and want to avoid heat or are using this in a laptop. Go P3. [reddit.com]

Good price for a 4TB bulk storage solution. I bought one of these late last year, paid around $200. It is OK if you understand its strengths and also can accept its limitations. This drive shines if you have an extra NVMe slot on a laptop and you want archival storage. The low TBW is not an issue if it is basically a write once - read many environment. The drive runs cool and very power efficient.

I would avoid if you are needing a drive for regular backup of large files. Performance is OK but degrades as the drive fills up...no real cache. Also, would not use it for a boot drive.

I got the Crucial P3 Plus gen 4, 4TB for $132 during Amazon prime day. That was a sweet deal. It's not live anymore of course.
