Hi SD'ers,
My 2 cents, Ship matters (both Cruise Line and the actual Ship). Princess, in my experience seems to be an older crowd, lower end ships vs. Carnival / Royal Carribean / Norwegian. Now if you are looking for the cheapest cruise to anywhere in a view less inside cabin, then this might be a good deal.
I'd recommend looking at taxes and fee's (they often times aren't included in the quoted price). Obviously the added expense of getting to a port (flight/hotel). Drink package cost vs. water and coffee. Not to mentions tips and add on's like wi-fi.
Norwegian seems to have the best all inclusive costs if you want a drink package, and wi-fi, and tips included. Virgin Voyages also has some good deals, but not the cheapest.
For Example the $299 cruise x 2 people on Princess came to $786.00 - with fee's and taxes, and no perks.
Hopefully someone better than i can give you more insight.
People saying that 7 nights for 2 ppl for over 2k all in is not a good deal. I just booked 7 nights on RCL Symphony of the Seas, 4 people, January next year, for 2300 after prepaid gratuities.

Virgin>Disney>RCL(Oasis Ships/new)>Norwegian>Viking>Carnival (new ships)>MSC>RCL Olderships>Princess>Costa>Carnival older

Been on around 30 cruises. Never buy drink packages, worked remotely on board via their wifi, mostly do random excursions while ashore.

Last 10 cruises Ive traveled with kids, therefore, my ranking is reflective of a couple cruising and also as a family. I can answer any questions you may have.

If you want insane deals, find the transit cruises where ships are relocating. Did a 30 day cruise for 23/day.

Always use a company to book with, use a card with perks, and know how much everything will be before finalizing a deal. I have a travel agent who is able to book most things for under advertised price, i assume you can find one as well.
For an ocean view or balcony, around $60/day (not including the port taxes and fees) or around $100/day (including taxes but not drink packages) are great deals. IMHO, itineraries matter a lot (a plus, since each port stop has a port fee) and number of days at sea (a minus).

For reference, my wife and I did a 7-day Eastern Caribbean Princess cruise in Feb in a balcony for around $1400 total. Last month we did a 7-day Alaska cruise in an Ocean-view cabin for $1100. Check cruiseplum.com and look at "Hot deals" to give you an idea.

Princess Cruises is considered a Premium cruise line (an up-scale, along with Celebrity) when compared to Carnival, Royal Caribbean, or Norwegian therefore they attract an older crowd. Their ships don't have roller-coasters, water slides, rock-climbing walls, etc. so if that's your thing, I would look elsewhere. Although, some of their larger ships have activity rooms for tweens, it's not at the same scale as Carnival, Royal or Norwegian. Again, their main customer base is the 40 and above crowd who wants to spend a quiet and relaxing cruise away from screaming kids.
Having said all that. Princess will be launching their newest and largest ship (Sun Princess) in Feb '24 which will have more activities for children which upset a large number of faithful Princess cruisers. I imagine they want to tap into the market for multi-generational families cruising together as Carnival, Royal and Norwegian have focused on.

Generally, the best deals are those under $60/day per person for an inside room, like the 10-day Mexican Riviera. Check to see port charges, which get pretty high if you stop at a port almost every day. Surprisingly, the cost gets higher per day instead of lower on really long cruises over 20 days. Skip the Plus and drink packages. Even if you drink a lot, you have to pay for both passengers in a room and days when you're in port. Some of these prices are OK, but not outstanding.

A good deal is all in at $2k or less for 2 adults. Depends on when you go. Sept-OCT is ideal in most cases. A decent deal is kids sailing free with tax and tips could be closer to $2800. Anything more than 2-3k for around 7 days is not worth it, IMO. Get more days like a 10 day cruise would be better at those prices. But if you wanted to bring 2 adults and 2 kids to a summer cruise, nothing is free, no deals, it could be $3-5k plus for 7 days which I would rather just go to Disney World and wait for a cruise deal another time.

One thing I'll mention here after our first Princess cruise last year to Alaska is Princess has a game changer to me which is their "MedallionClass", or Medallion system. Instead of having a typical cruise card to get in your room and pay for things arouind ship you have this airtag like thing you can put on a lanyard or watch insert and it detects when you get close to your room and unlocks door and the big thing is you can be anywhere on the ship and order food/drinks in the app and they will bring it to you which is the big game changer. At the pool in a comfortable place and dont want to get up for a drink? Order it through app, they bring it right to your chair. Need lunch and dont want to give up a spot at the pool side? Order it through app and they bring it right to you. Want to chill somewhere for a bit and have a drink, dont get up and go to a nearby bar and wait, just order in the app and they bring the drink right to you.

Really was awesome and I want to cruise on Princess again just for that. I imagine other companies will start to copy that technology in the coming years.

I cruise on carnival and Norwegian. Both are great. Recently came across msc cruises. Anyone cruise with them before. Their prices are so much cheaper compared to other cruises.

Cruise pricing is also confusing to me. There are so many fees that makes the final cost almost double the advertised price.

Cruised celebrity and Norwegian and have been eyeing MSC. I know from relatives who took MSC and every cruise video on YouTube I've seen. You generally get a beautiful ship, mediocre food, less attentive service, shows that aren't great, get harassed constantly to pay for dining packages, and have more paid things like a cirque DU Soleil show that isn't worth it.

I've been trying to get on one myself though. Looking at the newest ships and depending on cruise length might splurge for the yacht club area or whatever it's called to get a private pool. The prices are right and I just want to be on a nice boat and have drinks while I get to port.

That's what I would be interested in something like transit cruises how best to find them?
