Seafoam green is only 15 bucks more for anyone that doesn't like sunburst

Got that SRV look for cheap. These and the CV ones are leaps and bounds over most Squier models. I'd put them on MIM level.

So how does this compare?
Main difference is different wood type in body and alnico vs. ceramic pickups. Players have different preferences when it comes to pickups. Ceramic pickups are cheaper quality, usually.

No they aren't. CV's and these Anniversary models have shitty "vintage" features like 21 frets, 6 point trems, thick poly, glossy necks and fake orange tinting. The Paranormal and Contemporary models are MUCH better guitars, above MIM level. Even the Affinity's now come with 2 point trems that are a much better design than the ancient 6 point, and they have a nice satin finish to the neck that is far better for most players than what the CVs and anniversary models have.

OP: "Made in Indonesia NOT China"
You say that like it's a good thing. Hint: It's not.

And it should surprise no one that the ugliest anniversary model by far is also the first one to be discounted to nearly $250 from the original $599 price that they were for the first 9 months after they were introduced. Two things the world certainly does not need are more black or sunburst/tobaccoburst guitars.

You are confused. These 40th Anniversary strats have satin body and neck finishes.

I bought the Contemporary HH FR in Gunmetal color...it was on sale a while back brand new for $279 with free shipping from Adorama...It is by far the best Squier I have owned...I would hold out for the Contemporary and Paranormal models to go on sale, nothing against CV, Affinity or Anniversary models but the 2 I mentioned punch way above their weight.

Is this a good deal for a beginner Strat or would you recommend something else? Looking for my 16 year old.

I wish they'd offer HSS models (in better colors).

I got one about 2 weeks ago for my teenager, and it's a really nice guitar. Good quality feel and plays great. We also tried out the Affinity and Bullet Squier that are normally in this price range and they feel so much cheaper. You could easily tell them apart blindfolded.
These 40th anniversary were $500 last month (600 in Europe) and they feel and play like they cost that much. They are a lot closer to the $850 Fenders than the cheaper Squiers.

Highly recommended, especially at this price!

It's MUCH cheaper feeling. Neck feels almost unfinished, frets scratch your fingers on the edges, electronics and woods used are cheapest available.

That's a guitar that was made to sell for $200. The 40th Anniversary was made to sell for $500 and is now on clearance sale. They are not in the same league.

I already have the Green One. Tempted to grab another one just for that NECK. Best Strat neck I'd bolt it on my American Standard Strat.
