Good price, but don't need another one. Highly recommend it for making cables.

This help me find which connector was not done right. Definitely worth the money if you work with CAT cabling often

I've never used a tool like this before. Is it pretty easy to figure out what you're doing? I have 4 ethernet cables that were installed when my basement was finished and none of them seem to be working now. I've tried different routers/switches. I ran new cables to the devices that I could get to and they work fine. I still have one I don't think I can run a new line to but if it's something like a bad connector that would be an easy fix.

Cat 5 cable is 4 pairs of electric conductors.
There are much cheaper testers like https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M63EMBQ/ for example.
What is good in this one is the tracer if you need to identify which cable is which. Thjis one does tracker too https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LYVPR2Q though does not have remotes, you just connect the sender to one of the connectors, and hover the probe until it beeps.

This device also measures the cable length which can be useful sometimes.

TL;DR: it may be a good option but depending on what you need there may be cheaper devices that will do what you need.

I don't like to crimp RJ45 connectors, i prefer to punch a female connector and to connect them with patch cables. The only case i used a crimped connectors is for a custom cable for an outdoor wifi antenna to avoid having to put a box for the female connector.

You can test both ends to check for continuity or you can just plus one side in and check the signal length of each wire. If length is a lot shorter than the rest then you most likely have a bad connector or the crimp just bit through the jacket and not the actual wire and it needs to be redone. Make sure both ends are wired to be a passthrough cable.

Question for the people reading this thread. I have a bunch of un-terminated cable running all over my house. Is there a way to trace cables without putting a connector on the end of the cable to plug into a toner?

This doesn't come with a probe though, so you need to buy a probe to use this as a tracer.

I'm wondering if this will work with a Fluke probe? Or does it have to be a Klein probe?

Nobody likes to crimp RJ45 and this is kind of brilliant, I don't know why I never thought of doing it this way. You don't even need to put it in a wall plate. But if think you'd have to be more careful because a female connector is probably less resistant to heavy jostling than an RJ45.

Love this tool. Wish it handled PoE+ enabled switches. If your cable run is connected to a PoE switch, it will not do any test, even with a PoE blocker. Still a great tool and this is a great price for it too!

I have recently troubleshooted one of my ethernet wire that was always locking in connection at 100mbps when it should be 1gps. The tester showed pass with all wires connected but one of keystone jack was defective. Took me a lot longer (ended up replacing unnecessary parts) to get this sorted out due to true negative.

Does this allow you to check an Ethernet line to confirm it's good for gig service versus 100mb etc? I'm a novice and learn this stuff based on needs. If it does not, can someone give me a link to a device that does? I hav Ethernet throughout the house and connections work but I lose a lot of bandwidth for some reason.

I am about to terminate all cabling in my new house that is Ethernet telephone and cable. I believe the low voltage guys ran Ethernet cables to all my outdoor speakers rather than dedicated speaker wires. Which tracer can I use with this to help identify each of my cables and where they run to? Anyone have some resources you can point me to on how I can use this to make sure all of my cables get terminated properly?

I will have a small wiring panel in my mechanical room and then have most of my cabling running to a wiring closet. I estimate we have about 60-80 runs which would include all of the runs for the outdoor porch speakers (12).

We will be hardwiring our Apple TVs and Sonos soundbars and subs and Sonos amps to the Ethernet jacks to keep them off wifi. We will have fiber/gig Ethernet and trying to keep as much of our equipment hardwired verses wireless.

Will be purchasing most of our keystone jacks and supplies from mono price for the wall plates and for the cables to terminate.

I have a similar tracker that you linked. Worked well enough for my needs.

Once i discovered pass through crimp connectors, wiring Ethernet is much more foolproof.

Get a good crimper and you're good.

Agree that a punch down when possible is the best, but it's not always possible.
