I just tried to get a price match at Musician's Friend as I have a couple of reward points I need to use and guess what … they refuse to stand behind their price match guarantee!!!

The lap steel is know as a Hawaiian guitar because it originated in Hawaii. A guy named Joseph Kekuku invented the playing style.

Yes. Mostly in country music you'll see a pedal steel rather than a lap steel, which is a whole different thing. You may see some guitars played in a similar fashion to this one (in the lap, using a slide/bar) but those are more likely to be a resonator type/Dobro than something like this. That being said you could use this for whatever musical style you want. Just pointing out the differences since you asked.

Is this worth it over the rogue lap steel that regularly goes on stupid deal for ~$80?

I dunno how much this really matters since you don't fret strings on a lap steel

I had the Rogue and everything about it was cheap. Tuners were junk and the pickup was a ceramic magnet strat style single coil. I would say if you already play an instrument, get the Gretsch. If don't already play and you just want an absolute minimum investment to test your musicality, get the Rogue.
