Is there a commitment? Or is this really a ten buck deal? And do the WM people require ID? I don't need a burner phone, nor even a second cell phone. Just curious.

it states no upgrades, so yes pay at least 1st month, otherwise what are they activating?

Can you cancel the plan immediately and get most of the plan refunded?

Does unlocking require 6 months of paid, active service?

Definitely can't get refund on prepaid service plan, most likely even if you're returning the device.
90% you're going to need 180 days of active service.

I'd suggest buying metro plan for free device ($40 total) or picking better phone & plan combo. Metro 6 month unlock policy doesn't require active service, just initial activation and 6 month wait (at least it's been that way for years, could change anytime so don't hold me to it).

Metro regularly changes device cost for both new numbers and port-ins. N20 is surprisingly $100 with new number, it's regularly been between $0 and $40. Best choices right now are Pixel 6a and Galaxy A54, both will be $50 + $40 plan cost.

The 6a IMEI will register as compatible with every USA provider, while A54 will only say compatible with T Mobile providers. You can however use it on others but only if hot swapping sims is accepted such providers included are Visible or Xfinity mobile.

$250 for a Moto G Play 2023 + 6 months service then it seems.

Thanks for the Metro deal ideas!

Thank you for this helpful info! One quick question, If I was to purchase the A54 with the $40 plan and then not use the plan, is the service active anyways or not? Im wondering if I could just get the phone and then cancel and hoping they wouldnt charge me down the road the full actual cost of the phone which it looks like its between $300 to $400 from typical brick and mortar retailers.

What I plan to do is get this phone, and then trade it in for a qualifying promotion that is going on right now for the Moto RAZR+ Ultra 2023 model before that promo ends at the end of this month.

No most companies require you to do this stuff in store for a reason because you have to pay for the plan and prepaid plans are usually non-refundable. It's very rare to get a refund. When you try to call in for a refund they are going to see that it's a promotional deal you're doing so when you try to ask for a refund they're going to either tell you flat out that they can't or that they have to charge you the full cost of the device. If you somehow were to manage to get around this the device is probably going to get blacklisted or locked and you're not going to be able to trade it off. When you trade in a phone it has to be unlocked (typically) but it definitely can't be blacklisted. Now when I say if you try to get around it which is usually by doing the charge back when you use a credit card the company is going to see that.
