This machine works great. I got one of these the other day from QVC for around $46 shipped. I've made a couple batches of ice cream and I like this ice cream maker alot.

It's very easy and convenient to use, just push a button to start and it stops automatically and beeps when it's done. You can make ice cream whenever you want. You don't have to plan ahead and freeze the bowl for 24 hours before you can make ice cream like you have to do with all other machines at and way above this price range. I was looking at the cheapest Cuisinart for $65 before I saw and decided to buy this one.

I think this machine was normally around $130 at QVC and looks like it's been on a closeout sale for a couple of months.

My opinion as a first timer (this is my first ice cream maker)... For under $50 shipped is an excellent deal and a no brainer to buy. You can wait and the closeout price might get lower but now that it's posted on SD it might sell out before QVC lowers the price again.

Full disclosure FWIW: This is my first ice cream machine and my first time making ice cream. I don't have any experience with any other machines so take my opinion with a grain of salt and as a first timer making ice cream. I also have a habit of researching the hell out of something before I buy it.
From someone who has a $600+ actual compressor machine without a removable bowl (inherited from non slickdealers!) I can tell you a few things...first it's easy enough to wipe out a non removable bowl with a sponge, rinsing a few times in between with hot water then follow up with a 2-3 paper towel wipedown. If there is a greasy feel it is probably just the nature of the plastic (mine is stainless.). I honestly thought it would be a hassle, but it really takes like 2 minutes using a sponge to absorb as it wipes.

Next, buy or Google the Ben and Jerry's ice cream recipe book. All solid and perfect for home machine. And...for some of you, please don't be afraid of raw eggs, its the lecithin in the yolks that allow for the proper emulsion of the fats and solids that gives ice cream that great mouthfeel. Otherwise your desserts kinda feel like the old "ice milk" of the 80s, or a little watery like a frosty. Which is OK really but getting sick from raw eggs is such a low risk these days it's not worth the worry, tho I know some people just won't like the idea. But it's how ice cream has been made since it was invented... anything else is engineering.

Next, unless you have other reasons, always always put 2 TBS of vodka (flavored OK) in your mixture. This will stop it from freezing brick hard and remain scoopable in a standard house freezer. All ice cream rates a 5 min rest on counter before scooping but because not as much air is incorporated at home, homemade can become 20-30 wait-to-scoop (delicious) bricks. If you have no reason to exclude it, the vodka is your friend.

All recipes vodka or not, will be like soft serve when done in the machine, scoop it out into freezer containers and freeze it 3+ hours/overnight for it to reach standard storebought hard ice cream texture.

Lastly if you want a "chip" effect ie mint choc chip... don't just throw choc chips in, they freeze too hard to melt in your mouth with the ice cream. Melt about 1/2 choc chips with about 1 tbs coconut oil (or shortening ie hard at room temp fat) and drizzle it in as machine spins the last minute. It will create the "chips" you are used to, and which will melt a little in your mouth along with the rest and not be tooth breaking chunks.

This is by far the lowest price I have seen for a compressor machine and hope it's a good one that you all love using. The highlight of my summer is making fresh peach ice cream with the last of the season peaches from the farmer's market. I've had my machine 20+ years now and been making ice cream all those years.

Sorry for the long post I don't often have such direct experiences to accompany a Slickdeal! 😊

PS You don't taste the vodka (tho I use the whipped cream flavor nowadays just because I can). It's just there to inhibit.freezing and keep it scoopable.
This is my recipe for a 1.5 quart ice cream maker

Two cups cream
Half cup sugar
Two teaspoons vanilla (or to taste)
(optional) half cup cocoa

Mix well in separate bowl (I do it with fork in large measuring cup) and pour into already-turning ice cream maker.

You can also dump in random other flavors to taste if you want. I've tried (sometimes separately, sometimes mix and match) caramel from a bottle of those flavors they sell in the coffee aisle, peppermint extract, chocolate chips, and almond butter.

I'm a bit confused about why it would be greasy. That's what I was trying to explain before. You don't put anything in the permanent bowl, it just gets cold so that the bowl mixing the ice cream freezes.
You said you could use the bigger paddle to make a second batch of ice cream in the permanent non-removable bowl after using the smaller paddle with the removable bowl to make a first batch of ice cream. So if you're using the bigger paddle, in the non-removable bowl, that means you have to pour your ice cream mix with heavy cream which had fat in it into the non-removable bowl, hence making it greasy.

That is what the video on the website says. I probably wouldn't make ice-cream in the main unit. How hard can it be to remove the ice cream into another bowl, rinse the bucket and make another batch.

Thank you for sharing! I wanted to try an ice cream maker but didn't want to commit to a pricey unit.

I ordered one but I think it is worth mentioning that this is a product companies just slap their name on. I have seen 6 brands selling the same device.

Anyone else else worried about comments like this, there were 2?

"Product from the warehouse fire

I can't believe QVC shipped this item with the box falling apart. This ice cream machine was clearly in the warehouse fire. The box is covered in soot and has been soaked and dried out, with the corrugated box layers separated and falling apart. The shipping label, however, is pristine. When I opened the box, the manual and warranty sheet were covered in soot and also had been wet. The staples in the manual are rusted leaving red rust spots throughout the booklet. This should have never been shipped to any customer in this condition"

So how long does it take to make ice cream start to finish?

Interesting, had not seen a version where you don't pack it with ice before. May have to pick one of these up to try.

Same thing. I didn't notice easy pay but it defaulted to that. When I went back to my order it cancelled the coupon. The CSR I spoke with adjusted my order and gave me the $30 but now I was being charged $2 more in sales tax because she just gave the $30 coupon back and they taxed it at the regular clearance price. Explaining this to customer service was futile.

Long story short, I cancelled the order altogether, signed my wife up for QVC and the coupon worked at our same address (and last name) with a different email address. I unchecked easy pay and switched colors as well. The blue is a little garish, but the white looks normal.
Please DM the link you used for white.
Thank you.

EDIT: it looks like white is OOS

Last night I was so tired I fell asleep trying to order it, and today I wake up and blue is gone, so only purple and pink are left. Guess the pink matches strawberry icecream 🤔.

Thanks for the recipe. Question: Two cups of cream (and ½ cup sugar) will aerate to make 1.5 quart of ice cream? If yes, that's a lot of air because you're increasing the volume from 16oz to 48oz, or 300%!

I think that machine uses a Peltier cooling system which isn't as good as a compressor.
No, it uses a regular freezer bowl, which you need to pre-freeze overnight. Peltier cooling cannot get cold enough to freeze. Under the best of conditions, you may be able to get about 30°F lower than ambient temperature, which is usually in the 40s.

ATK uses a blender than just freeze the ice cream in the freezer.

I just bought the pink one to flout gender norms!

I might have bought the blue if it was available but not because I preferred the color. Rather, the color blue is proven to be an appetite suppressant. That's because blue is associated with moldy and rotting food in nature. Many animals avoid blue foods and some animals have blue markings to repel predators. In contrast, red is an appetite stimulant, telling carnivores that there's fresh bloody meat. You'll see many restaurants using a lot of red and almost no blue.

But in the end, I thought flouting social norms is more fun than suppressing my appetite. And ice cream is all about fun.

Ice-and-salt churners were popular in the 1970s. From the 90s onward, most used bowls that needed to be pre-frozen overnight. Compressor-cooled ice cream makers are common in restaurants where they have to make ice cream on the fly. Affordable consumer models are relatively new. But they usually cost $150-$300. I've only seen a few no-name models on eBay for <$50, with one for <$30. Almost bought one but couldn't trust the seller or manufacturer. So when I saw this, I jumped to order.
