It's a great thermostat as it is, with remote control through Google or Alexa, has nice sensors, sturdy, although one died on me after few 4 years thank God for electric company rebates I got 2 for $100.
I would not pay more than $100 for one.
Lastly, I wish room sensors were accurate and I wish they improved it with air quality sensors and other sensors.
I don't think much of its away sensor as most thermostats aren't in the main living area. I haven't heard great things. You could set it up with your phone but that can have issues as well.
Basically what you want from a thermostat is that is is easy to program, stores tons of historical data and has good room sensors. Ecobee would win in ALL important areas. It loses slightly in the looks/trendy and not fond of the integrated alexa.
I had the original ecobee which I loved. Easy to set up and run. Wiring was weird but actually helpful in some cases. Basically only needed data/power between thermostat and the box which actually controlled the various units. Then wired from the box to the units.
I switched not because I didn't love the unit, but because new heatpump required the vendors thermostat.
In general I would buy Ecobee most of the time. It costs less and tends to function better. Has better logs to track potential cost savings if you want.
