Aren't these the ones that are terrible quality and can't hold a charge and also bigger than a regular AA?

No, those are the 2000mah amazon basic rechargeable batteries. It was on sale maybe a couple weeks ago for like .90/battery. I am glad I waited and got these instead. For a little bit more but less frequent recharges needed.

There are absolutely people in the reviews complaining that they are wider than standard batteries.

This is what made me decide not to buy these just a few weeks ago.

In for four 8-packs to reach $50 and get the 20% off (plus S&S). Total was about $37 before tax. Glad to stock up on these for Xbox controllers that eat through normal batteries.

Generally, lower capacity batteries have lower self-discharge and hold up better in the long run. High capacity batteries are really only better if you are draining them in a shorter timeframe. For most uses, I recommend AAs no more than ~2100mAh.

Amazon 2400 is Japan Made. Same class as Panasonic, IKEA, Duracell. 1% defect.

Amazon 2000 is China Made. Half of them are duds, the ones that make it past 2 years last a long time.

The Amazon page states they're made in China. Also, the reviews are, shall we say, unimpressive.

At least some of the standard capacity models are made in Malaysia.

There are serval Amazon reviews that claim this is no longer the case, and the product description says that they're made in China. Unless you can confirm with some evidence, I would assume thev have moved production.
