That review: "FOR BEGINNERS ONLY
I've been using sewing machines for about 10 years, and wanted to branch out into custom embroidery. This machine is absolutely infuriating in everything it can't do for the price I paid. The touchscreen looks cool, but makes it hard to browse and select embroidery stitches. It doesn't have the Brother "My Custom Stitch" feature, so you can't make your own decorative stitches. THE SPOOL HOLDER DOESN'T HOLD BIG THREAD CONES, SO I HAD TO TAPE A PAINTBRUSH TO THE SIDE.
The embroidery frame is only 4x4 inches wide, which isn't much so you have to constantly move the frame if you want to embroider, say, a line of text. When it came out wrong, at first I thought I was just moving and positioning the fabric incorrectly. ACTUALLY, every time you type out a word in the machine, it positions it a little higher or lower every time depending on the letters, so even if you move the fabric perfectly laterally, the text still moves up or down (see the middle-left square in the second picture for the best example). Using the machine is easy, getting it to do what you want to do is the hard part.
For beginners, the machine's stickers and instructions will teach you how to do basic stuff like winding the bobbin and threading the needle. It can also embroider any of its pre-set designs with no problem. But if you're a more advanced beginner or intermediate sewer/embroiderer looking to make your own custom designs, I'd recommend splurging on a machine at a higher price point."

it's a bit (lot) of a learning curve, but yes, you can do custom embroidery with this. There is also a 'double width' frame that you can do two-shot to make a 4x6-ish (it's really 100mm x 150mm) embroideries.
Having said that, you would need to be prepared to practice with material that's similar to the polo shirts, spend money on decent embroidery thread, and know that you'll probably have several failed attempts in order to get it to all look right. I've got the SE400 and (not having seen the logo you're talking about) I think it could do the job. I wouldn't make them shirts to sell, and I know from experience that it takes a while to get it all to work smoothly, but for my own kids school attire I'd try it.
