The price need to be 299 or up.

My opinion try to find i5 8350 (8th gen procesor) with 8GB RAM, SSD and FHD (1920x1080) screen.

Damn, maybe a bajillion years ago 16mb would have sufficed for a college student, but probably not today.

But maybe for a freshman…

RAM is fine, processor is 5 years old and not very fast, and the display is trash.

There are various i7 models for a few bucks more and FHD screens.

A 256GB hard drive is not large enough to hold Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Matlab, and other software that will likely be needed. That is not including games, etc. It also doesn't include VM's like Kali or Ubuntu.
16 GB RAM is pretty minimal, especially if there are any VM's.
The machine is 5 years old as well and already on borrowed time.

If they are not going to game, look for a 13th gen i7 with 1-2TB SSD and 16-32GB RAM. Those have been floating around here brand new for $700. If gaming is desired add on a dedicated GPU for another $300+

Funny round-about way to flex something that no one cares about.

This is like the resumes I see when they just list acronyms everywhere

No 2-in-1 are not upgradable for RAM. Some high-end touch (non 2-in-1 machines are not upgradable either. (high end ones I know are too new to be on refurb like Latititude 7440 ultralight with soldered ram but I am simply saying some non 2-in-1 cannot be upgraded either but seems to be a new trend so Refurbs may still be ok)

Most of them are swappable for the SSD. (I say most because I have not come across one that you cannot swap but doesn't mean I've seen all of them)

Windows only takes 20gb, 4-core Intel 8th Gen to 12th Gen runs fine and for watching 4k video.

8ram 256ssd is ok for light use starting at $100.

Add extra 8gb for $15 and 512gb for $25 for touchscreen dells

16ram 512ssd for heavy work starting at $200
32ram 3050 4vram basic gaming starting at $400

they mention 2TB lol, but can't name a gpu model for a gaming laptop like a 2050/3050 or better.

Plus all these "apps" can be run on the cloud, MS Office365 is free online.

8gb ram 256gb ssd is basic, its not like 64gb or 128gb mmc with some these junk netbooks.

8gb nontouch dell so dimm are so easy to upgrade down the road for 15 bucks

Yes and "Ubuntu" wow... it takes 4GB disk space. But who runs just the Ubuntu OS anyway so it's a meaningless mention on the impact on storage
