I had to return an ONN refurb (not this deal). Light leaked around the edges of the screen; it did function, but that was unacceptable to me. I had to flag down a UPS driver to take the huge box.
Do you have to have a Roku subscription to use this TV or can you just plug it straight into cable or over the air? Does it have an over-the-air digital tuner?

You have to go through the Roku interface to set up OTA. No Roku subscription is required (I didn't know that was a thing).

Roku itself doesn't have a subscription The Roku channel is free you can upgrade to various premium channels but no subscription required for Roku. I have a Roku TV of a different brand and you just plug it in. I use an over-the-air antenna and Wi-Fi to get many free apps/channels, haven't paid for cable in a decade.
I hate Roku system. Super slow like a snail. Do yourself a favor and get fire stick or google
I find the newer Roku tv to be "fast enough", including this one. Mom mother recently picked on of these 32" version up. Again its "fast enough" and works decent for her. I hate the interface, and am very frustrated at the fact you cant really turn it off. I found you have to jump thru alot of hoops to get it to boot directly to a source, and I found you HAVE to sign in with a Roku account to get the tv set up.
They need to build in some "back door" way for at least some people to get the TV on and switching inputs without using a Roku account.

We have a 50" Onn w/Roku in our garage and the app was extremely slow. However, we picked up an external Roku Premier for another TV and, as an experiment, I plugged it into the Onn. The difference was night and day in regards to responsiveness. Ended up buying another Premier on sale and have been very happy with the Onn since.

The same experience with me. I've had multiple ROKU TV sets over the last 5 years (SHARP, ONN) and used them all with Ariel, wifi, cable, and etc without any issues. Used them as monitors as well. Three of them are hooked to the CCTV outside hub and cameras. Haven't had any issues with their speeds. My father in law has Westinghouse (and it's own, not ROKU software) and that beast is VERY slow I'm not sure if it's just his particular model or their whole smart TV line software issue.
