I have the same question as well.

People generally recommend the Samsung T7, which is currently $63 on Samsung EPP, but that doesn't come with Costco's legendary return policy should the SSD melt in the summer heat. Among portable SSDs that I've seen, this Costco Lexar, assuming it's identical to the Lexar SL660, has one of the most robust operating temp upper bounds I've seen in this price range: 70C.

For reference, these are the upper bounds for Operating Temps of the portable SSDs I'm considering:

SanDisk Extreme Go 1TB - $64.99 @ Costco: 45C or 113F
Samsung T7 1TB - $62.99 @ Samsung EPP: 60C or 140F
This Lexar SL660? - $69.99 @ Costco: 70C or 158F.

Keep in mind that this Lexar will be running at less than half speed in a Tesla, bc Teslas don't support USB 3.2x2. This should be favorable to operating temperatures as well as longevity, as the Lexar is built to handle much higher temps were the SSD running at full speed vs the last gen drives used in the Sandisk and Samsung.

I'm concerned about operating temps bc recently, my Model 3 has regularly reported 130-140F interior temps even when it's only 90F outside. This translates to 60C--right at the upper bound of the Samsung T7's operating temp.

Obviously, the ssd will continue to work past that upper bound, but that'd likely induce throttling and impact the longevity of the ssd. Anecdotally, some ppl have had issues with the Samsung T7 melting into a pool of thermal paste (from inside the ssd's enclosure) after 2-3 years, and it takes months to get a warranty replacement.

Will this work with Xbox Series S/X? I apologize if this has already been answered.
Anything that can be connected with USB 3 speed works with Xbox Series S/X. But you can't play S/X optimized games directly from USB drive. You have to swap out / swap in main storage in order to play S/X games. Also, USB ports on Xbox S/X can support only 5Gbps. It's overkill to use this on Xbox.

Regarding heat...
I accidentally left 3 SanDisk Extreme 1TB drives in my car in Phoenix Arizona on my black leather seats for about 5 hours (Phx is averaging 115 degrees). I expected all the drives to be toast. I was shocked that all 3 not only worked, but still retained all the data in the drives. It was easily 140+ degrees as my car was reading 120 degrees for "outside temp". I have previously dropped one of the drives multiple times on to concrete and it held up. I have several external SSD drives and the SanDisk appear to compensate for my stupidity.
That's good to know! But storage temp is diff from operating temp. The Sandisk Extremes have a storage temp from -20c to 70c, but are only guaranteed to operate between 0 and 45c.

I'm mainly worried about data being corrupted when writing at extreme CA temps in Sentry mode.

I've personally known SanDisk to be a reliable brand, and was excited when I bought my Extreme Go 1TB from Costco around 2 years ago (2021) and decided to use it for school. It's worked fine for me through some light video editing. However, after taking an intermediate photography course this past spring, my Extreme Go hasn't been the most reliable in terms of connectivity: the data is still there, but via USB C it maybe reads a connection after several attempts. I didn't know about the operating temperature limits, but wish I did. I'm guessing the 2021 version had an even lower upper limit in operating temperature. that photography course I was doing very heavy imports into Lightroom as I tend to take A LOT of photos, and was using the same Lightroom catalog the entire semester. I started having issues with the drive by late April, so I didn't even finish the semester with the same drive.

For the time being I've been back on thumb drives, until I can choose a successor to the SanDisk Extreme Go.

Well, if you want to play a Wuhan lab test rabbit with your data, buy one. Lexar is a Chinese company from the infamous Wuhan. They are using Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp NAND chips and MaxioTech SSd controllers that nobody ever seen before. Yangtze Memory Technologies is also US sanctioned company. How did they slip through? Big Grin

I got one from Costco. Surprisingly the front type c port on my Intel 12 extreme NUC actually support usb2x2 so I'm getting 2000MBps read and 1900MBps write which is quite impressive.

I did have some weird issue though: when I create two partitions on the drive it fails and constantly gives me "USB device not recognize" message, may be 90% of time. If I removed 2nd partition (while it is working) then everything comes back to normal. So could be a controller issue?

I don't see any specs on what type of storage this is or speeds? Guessing it's a spinning hard drive?
