As for work... If opening a can of fruit or a bag of frozen fruit and adding it to the pint and filling it with milk, half&half or cream is work, then IDK...
We love it b/c we can customize the flavors and ingredients. Have one person who needs lots of extra calories (using mostly cream and extra sugar), another who does not need it but loves ice cream (using whole milk all the way, no sugar).
Besides fruit, we use instant breakfast bags, dissolve in the liquid and freeze. Has all the flavors already in it.
Great for ripe bananas or other fruit that otherwise may get thrown out. Recently, we had a bounty of figs. Many of those went into Creami jars for great fig ice cream (figs, drop of real vanilla, cream or milk and for some extra sugar, for others only the first three ingredients. That's it).
You cannot find the varieties of flavors and ingredients on the store shelf. Our ice cream has 3 ingredients max (flavoring either fruit or powdered breakfast stuff, emulsifier in the form of milk, half&half or cream and for some, sugar). That's it. No extra stuff...
And as for the cream cheese in the Ninja recipes... we don't use that at all. No cooking, no nothing. Still great ice cream and takes about 30 seconds to fill a pint jar, 10 seconds to take it to the freezer and 10 to take from freezer to machine. Granted, you have about 90 seconds for the pints to be creamed. So, that's less than 3 minutes.
But it's good if you know you won't use it much and now buy it. Leaves it for those who do want to buy it
