Have someone else signup (spouse, significant other) and put them as primary and yourself as secondary (domestic) and it will work. As long as the primary hasn't had a membership recently.

so I dunno if I'm missing a step or what. I keep seeing others saying to alternate who signs up to be able to get new member discounts but it did not work for me.
Bought it again under a different email and card but same name and address and everything came through 6 hours later. Called my credit card company and they denied declining any transactions so idk wtf is going on with Groupon.
