I take we are talking TCL Q8 and not Hisense U8.
Advantage of the Q7 over 5 series. Brighter (at 1000 nits, I think the 5 was 500-600 nits), which means better HDR and viewing in bright or reflective room. More dimming zones 200+, than 5 series (35+) means deeper blacks, more contrast and less blooming. Also 120 hz for smoother frames/motion, especially in sports & video games.
Advantage of the Q8, even brighter at 2000 nits, mini led and insane 2300+ local dimming zones, getting much closer to OLED (still can't beat it's black and color accuracy) but with greater brightness to handle challenging rooms.

Does anyone have any experience with Google tv versus Roku tv? I've been using TCL Roku tv's for years now, but it looks like TCL is dropping the Roku brand for Google? Roku has been idiot proof for my parents to use, and I'm worried Google might be more complicated for them if we buy a newer tv with the Google interface.

Random hdmi 2.1 question. I have hdmi cables in my wall that are the cl3 wall rated cables. How do I know if I can still do 120hz? So I plug my Xbox in the wall, and then from the wall to the tv. Essentially I have 3 cables.

This is comparable to last year's 5 series (although the brightness specs shown here are likely > than what the 5 series had)

The Q8 is mini-LED backlighting, similar to last year's 6 series (actual brightness specs comparison TBD)

The Q7 is suppose to be the replacement for last year's 6-series, with the QM8 a big step up. However, by specs, the Q7 is positioned between last year's 5-series and 6-series.... but closer to the 6-series. Main differences are: the 2022 6-series has Mini-LED Backlighting, more dimming zones than the Q7, and 1500+ nits of peak brightness, whereas the Q7 has Full Array Backlighting, up to 1000 nits of peak brightness, and an updated processor with better gaming features. This or an old version oled like the a2 or b2. Any tips? Am leaning towards oled, will these old version oled also have burn in effect or can these be considered new enough to not have these issues?
