Just want to chime in as someone who knows way too much about glass. PYREX is borosilicate, pyrex is tempered soda-lime glass. Most glassware you find will not be borosilicate. Borosilicate has a very low coefficient of expansion, meaning when it is heated, it doesn't expand much and is far less likely to break from thermal shock. If your only intention is to store food in the refrigerator or pantry with them, you will be fine with a softer glass. If you want these to be able to handle a lifetime of going from the freezer to a hot faucet or the microwave/oven, borosilicate is for you. Just spend the extra money and get the borosilicate, it's worth it.

Link please. I don't see anything in that price range on their website. And I think most of the Pyrex is made of inferior glass.

Not the poster you're responding to and not $25, but Costco has an 18-piece Pyrex Snapware set for $35.99: https://www.costco.com/snapware-p...58145.html

Thanks for the expertise. Sorry to hijack the thread but... Is borosilicate then also more dishwasher safe? I have thin-walled borosilicate coffee mugs and fear they may not be dishwasher safe.

Boro can go from freezer to oven without cracking. Soda glass is only good for microwave and not as receptive to heat change.

If you have a glass coffee pot, that's borosilicate. There's some newer Pyrex bento bowls that are boro. Hard to tell just looking at the name, even though what the guy above says is true. The Costco ones are soda but are they Pyrex or PYREX? There's also pyrex (all lowercase).

Either should be fine in dishwasher.

These containers have better lids design with four locking tabs. Rubbermaid Brilliance containers have only two locking tabs on their lids; and for their larger containers, their lids will warp and leak due to only two locking tabs to secure the lids. I wish Rubbermaid Brilliance lids have four locking tabs, and they would be perfect.

My apologies, I misremembered. you are correct. it's PYREX, and pyrex. lower case being the tempered soda-lime.

I can't speak to Costco, however the Sam's club brand was horrific. The lids would not match up after one dishwashing.

OXO has a lifetime warranty. Great customer service no issues with OXO.

Even that isn't always true, and even knowing this, I still find it hard to tell the difference just looking at the logo (look at the Costco ones and determine which one they are…hard to say, for me anyway, but I've seen em in store and know they're soda).

The bento bowls I have are boro and I'm pretty sure they were Pyrex (not lowercase or upper case). I just don't put much stock into it - the brand name, not the glass type - and check the materials on the box.

Not trying to come off as argumentative as it's definitely good info that you have provided.

I can vouch for the Costco glass ones. Very nice glass, freezer to oven. But I've had about ten lid tabs fail with very light usage, and there isn't a removable gasket either.

It's Costco so I just wait until I have a few lids to return then swap them (the manufacturer doesn't return calls), but would prefer a more robust lid design.
