Existing chime works with this one. Can also use Echo Dot, etc. as a chime. This has a battery so no wires required but I believe it has terminals to hard wire so no recharging annoyance.

Is there any reason to avoid this? Our house has a doorbell but nobody uses it. Packages are left and the driver runs away. I was thinking of getting something like this just so things aren't sitting on the porch, and for the rare cases of salespeople. I don't think I'd be bothered by the inability to record (without the sub). And the display would help so I don't have to install a tablet near the door.

I did some research last year but stopped after reading about batteries and some aren't compatible with existing chimes. This seems to last months (supposedly) and can be chimed.

Show 5 is pretty useless IMO. Screen is too small for anything other than clock display, and the 3rd gen still has sloooow processing power and switching between tasks with lags and freezes gets frustrating fast. With that said, the Show 8 and 10 are great devices

You will get "Motion Detected at the Front Door" alerts without sub so mailman and delivery still trigger it. With a sub you get a bit more fancy with recordings and Apple Watch stills and such but you don't need it.

Annoyingly, divers rarely ring doorbells.
