How much does a donut even cost?
More than a lotto ticket

Krispy Kreme is a 2 minute drive and open 24 hours drive through. Maybe once or twice
a year I'd get their buy a dozen get another dozen for a $1 promo. But then it ends up in a binge or massive amount of calories consumed. Would be nice if they had a " healthy" menu option like protein donuts or ones with sugar substitutes. Otherwise I avoid Krispy Kreme or the local safeway and lucky bakery donuts. Which are actually much bigger and cheaper, I think around $7 for a dozen. But they also went up in price to $10-12 range

This is a pretty ridiculous promotion, requiring you to gamble to get a free donut
It's a promotion. you aren't required to participate. 50% of Americans play the lottery at least 1x a year. Usually when it's a large number like it is now. from a business perspective it's not ridiculous at all considering how many losers there are holding their tickets from last night. but people will complain about anything I guess.

I'm risk adverse so I rationalize the lottery as a donation to public schools which I contribute once per 1 billion dollar jackpot cycle.

So happens that I also get a couple days of hopeful happy vibes.

🙂
not all states do that though so you have to check how your state handles the money. some states don't even really specify where the money goes. it's some generalized term.

Not related to this deal, I received some bad news yesterday. The free birthday dozen glazed has been reduced to 3 glazed now. Just my luck and my brother got a dozen free back around April.

Yes. Let's promote gambling, it's fun for the whole family.
At least it's not promoting bad deals.

I won 1 Million dollars, but I need advice, what do you think is better: Claim the price or exchange ticket for one delicious 🍩?

Some are very tricky with the money…

For example, they can specify the money goes to education, but that just enables the money originally budgeted for education to then get redirected to somewhere else.

Net effect: the lotto gets to claim it's for education but the proceeds really end up elsewhere.

A bit off topic, but people should know where their money could be going.
