Slickdeals member for years, never felt strong enough to post. I bought these clubs 6 months ago. One of the best purchases I've made. These play like $1000 clubs. I trialed stealth irons on vacation and generally play with my dads clubs when Im back home. These are the best I've used personally, especially at the price point.

30+ handicapper (generally on the green in time for birdie/par putt, but then always 3 and 4 putt). Callaway Edge Driver about 280. People told me to upgrade and i could hit it easily 300. I bough the Callaway Rogue max driver. It goes the exact same distance, but the spread pattern is better.

I own these, they are great clubs for a beginner and even someone a year or two into the game if they currently have very poor hand-me-down/used clubs. Very forgiving, well made, great feel. The benefit here is you can upgrade select pieces as you improve, trading in for better clubs. Wedges would be first addition, then trade the driver. Irons would last you a long time and the putter forever as there are folks on tour that use Odyssy White Hots.

Couple of points:

1) My coach says that the graphite shafts, which are slightly more expensive, are probably a good investment if you are not athletic or aged over 40. Due to swing speed.

2) "crap deal, they were $500 before" - note that even at $550 these are exceptionally valued clubs. The putter alone is $150-175 retail. They are a Costco special release of an older club called "X2 Hot" which sold for a lot, lot more at the time. The reason they are on Slickdeals is that they go out of stock a lot and then you are SOL. The fact they are available is the deal.

3) "better to get used off eBay" - it's really hit or miss to know whether you are picking up quality clubs someone has grown out of or if you are buying crap clubs that should go in the trash. If you buy the latter you will develop frustration and bad techniques. Same if you buy 'player' or 'tour' clubs that lack the forgiveness a beginner needs. I buy used clubs and honestly I'd be hard pressed to get you something of equal quality for the same money, and that's after a lot of waiting and digging around. Newbies will have no idea what they are buying.

4) The only set that comes close to this in terms of good beginner option is the Inesis 100 half-set from Decathalon (which my wife uses). They just released a full set in Europe which I assume will be out here, but a half set is also a good way to go if you really are dipping your toe in. Look out for these used.

5) Golf is a reasonably expensive sport - bag, shoes, balls, accessories, LESSONS... and green fees can be $20-150, 50 range balls $5-15 depending on where you live and play. If $550 is spendy it might not be the sport for you.

Have fun!

Get old and see what happens.

I played football in college, used to love trying to play basketball at the gym, and would do ghost pepper eating challenges without thinking twice.

Now every night I have to make sure that I have a pillow between my legs so my back doesn't hurt, and now I have to weigh whether I want to lay on my previously broken and perpetually painful left shoulder or risk waking up coughing from acid reflux if I lay on the right side.

Driving around in a cart and hitting some balls in the water is pretty appealing "active" afternoon.

Obviously personal preference if the effort is worth it to you to go that route, but buying a set of used irons from CPO seems to be a lot easier and gives you more options on what irons to choose from.

Bought these a year ago for the wife as she was starting out. They are a great value. Not quite the same finish as my Mavrik irons, but I paid $135 each for mine. If you've been playing for a while and are looking for an upgrade, then I'd always recommend a club fitting. If you are just starting to learn the game and don't have an established swing, then this is a great set.

FYI Kirkland Signature Driver and Irons release just leaked so these may go away soon. $199 driver and $549 irons set. Next gen wedges already available and putter likely not too far behind.

Inflation. Everyone has gone up in price. I paid $500 for them in 2021.

It's not. SD posts show just 4-5 mo than ago these were $500. I've observed around BF they tend to drop to that price.

What is CPO? Have a link? I'm considering new irons so this sounds like something I'd love to check out.
