Yes. If the pictures are important to you, then it's better to have more than 1 backup.

Some people use a DVD writer to make backups on DVDs.

You can also use a drive enclosure to re-use an old drive for backup through USB.

You should test to see that your backups are working and then replace with new ones every few years.
