Woot has the soldering iron kit that I bought on new years for $50 on sale for $32. I have done a few projects with this iron already it feels like it's made well, may not be a big brand name but I think that it's great for any home DIYer. Has temperature control, brass sponge, different tips, holster stand for the iron.

Solder fumes are harmful. If possible perform your work in a well ventilated space.
The T12 and other similar iron tips are an evolution (or revolution) over the regular irons with ceramic heaters in the handle. T12 incorporates the heater in the tip, close to soldering zone, which drastically improves the heat transmission and permits to stabilize pretty well the temperature for pretty big copper polygons. From my experience, it is the same feeling as when you move from riding a 40 year old car into a new, sporty one.
As you wish:

The iron gets hot
I watch it melt the solder
My work is now done

Might as well get a Pinecil V2 and some accessories.
How do those work with power bricks though? Is that enough juice or does this really need the higher voltage of a quick charge port?

This is sort of unrelated. But about a year ago, there was a deal at a local grocery store (Lidl) for a battery powered solder iron. It was cheap and I gave it a shot. It is now my favorite solder iron. Actually, I haven't used my wired once since I got this. It's so handy to take them where you need them. For example I just put a new stereo in my car and was able to solder all the contacts while in the car. Normally I would have just taped them together. Either way, if you don't solder regularly and don't solder heavy duty stuff, battery powered solder irons are something to consider.

I use Ryobi 18V batteries with my Pinecil, they work great. You can get an adapter on Amazon for about $10 that connects to the battery and has 2 bare wires as outputs, just solder on the right connector for the pinecil barrel connector.

I have Weller battery-powered irons. They are a bit big because they take 4 AA batteries but they can do about 200 junctions per 4 fresh AA batteries. I just had to be a bit patient with each junction. It's around 30-35USD.

Mine is this one. No AA batteries, just a built in Li-ion battery. Just under $30.

Intersting idea, I would have to go with makita if such an adapter is around for those. But honestly, going to look into some battery powered untis with built batteries like a couple of guys in this thread were mentioning. 90% of the time when I'm doing soldering it's on a vehicle so I would prefer totally cordless (with the one we were talking about you would still have a USB cable hanging off of it). Been using butane powered units for years now I have given up on them since they just don't seem to last. The most recent one I had was made by dremel but started giving me a lot of trouble after not much use (had it for a long time but didn't use it much for a while and was just using it like a week ago and it wouldn't stay lit and then the ignitor crapped out). Have to research this more to see what's out there.
Edit: This one is a bit pricier than others mentioned, but seems like it might have a lot of ass for a cordless iron https://www.amazon.com/Weller-BL6...J4NNQ?th=1

LOL, yeah don't think a battery pack thing would cut it. Never measured the output but I'm thinking maybe like 6ish volts at the most. Thanks anyway.
