Latest word is nVidia is cutting back production of 4000-series GPUs in favor of producing more Hopper-based AI accelerators.

Go for it if you've got any big PC games that you'd really want a 4080 to play between now and November. Otherwise, hold and you'll likely get a better price in four months.

I would be surprised if it's below $800 by then, but it's up to you if maybe a couple hundred bucks is worth four months of usage.

I'm trying to build a sim rig but not in a particular rush. Bought most of the computer components i needed with prime day deals. Still need a video card from a computer standpoint I'm willing to wait until a good monitor/frame deal comes up too, so I'm torn

Personally waiting for 2025 5000 series GPUs to see if NVIDIA stops price gouging gamers.

If not, I'll see what Intel's Battlemage looks like. If it's still mid-range only, pricing of the 7900 XTX should have dropped a bit more by then. Hoping to one day pick up a high-end GPU for the same price as a PS5/Xbox Series X. 7900 XT is getting pretty close.

Tempting but not budging till as someone else mentioned drops under $800, Rocking my 3080 TI and its not breaking a sweat currently on my 1080p gaming so no real need for 4080 yet.

MSI 4080 hit $1000 in the recent past. Bet we'll see more sales like this around the holidays.

Nvidia got stuck with massive amounts of 3000 series stock after the crypto mining boom ended. Even before they released the 4000 series, reports were coming out that there strategy to avoid a loss on the 3000 series would be to keep the 4000 series prices high. They will likely not drop until all the 3000 series stock is gone.

3080 MSRP is $699. It does not make any sense to double the MSRP of 4080. I won't pay anything more than $800. FK NVDA

I know someone who swears by Zotac. I hear MSI is good too. Don't have personal experience with either. Reddit, Gamers Nexus and Linus Tech Tips should have some decent info for you to compare the two cards.

I just got an ASUS TUF 3080 12GB OC from Prime Day, used for $500, but with the plastic wrap still on the card, I could swear it was unused. I'll probably stick with my ASUS before jumping on a 4000 series, and most likely wait for the 5000 series in a few years if I feel like spoiling myself. Smilie

Update: glanced through one thread, and MSI looks to be winner for customer support but YMMV: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...hics_card/

I'd go MSI over Zotac. When everyone else was price hiking video cards during the pandemic, Zotac was price trying-to-summit-Everest.
