Good deal for the 990 Pro. Too bad they don't have the 2TB for $100.

How does this one compare to the WD PlayStation5 SSD? besides no heatsink (whatever that does)
990 Pro has lower latency and is a little faster. Both good drives.

Man prices seemed to have absolutely cratered for SSDs in the last 6 months or so. Too bad this capacity is sorta stuck in no mans land. If i'm upgrading my PS5 or installing this as my primary OS drive, 1Tb doesnt last long at all these days with game sizes reaching 150gb+.

But these are so fast that you can use them as externals without any lag.

Edit: You can use these only for PS4 games on externals. No matter what drive you use externally, the transfer rate won't be fast enough for the current PS5 games.
So you can use it as an external for only older PS4 titles, which will free up space on the internal drive.

You'll need a pricy enclosure to utilize this drive at its full speed.

The sn850x is a better value since you're very unlikely to notice the difference in performance.

What's your idea of pricy?

I did see that after I posted. Good pricr on that also. I may be able to get that extra $10 off also as I need some other components.

Can't know what do you mean by "WD PS5 SSD" tbh, Western Digital has a few M.2 drives in the market and the one that this one would compared to is the SN850X, in any case the Samsung 990 Pro is slightly better as it was released later.

990 Pro 2TB was $129.99 on Prime Day and Microcenter matched. Hopefully we'll see it around $100 by year's end since PCIe 5 NVMe drives are out now.

Isn't the PS5 version the western digital SN850P? and what does heatsink actually do?

And here I am still keeping my OS on a separate drive, all by itself lol
