So because Apple charges a lot for storage you should pay extra for an amount that you will never need? Maybe he helps in long run if you plan to sell it, but for me, it would be completely unnecessary. I don't have games, or a ton of files saved to my iPad. It runs some apps and lets me stream movies and music.
Do what you want, my original comment was in response to going with 8gb of ram to 16gb of ram. For $80 it is more easily justified to go to 1TB/16gb than for $140 more to go from 256gb/8gb to 2TB/16gb
I think theyre just making a smart suggestion for people that want the best device.
I mean, a $100 tablet can run a few apps and stream which apparently covers your use case.
So why pay for all that power that you're never going to use?

If you want to reply to the person asking if he should of gotten 16gb of ram instead of the 8gb than go ahead and give your opinion to him…
Also, for my use case I use an older gen 9 iPad with 64gb, which does exactly what I need it to do. It was $250, basically the cheapest ipad you can purchase new.

Often, most miss the *-Point-* that this is or was an incredible deal.
I, for ie. purchased the 2021 IPad Pro 12.9" 2Tb for abt. $2,400.00 in late-2021 from Sam's Club. Then, purchased the Apple Care + Loss & Theft 2-year coverage.
Get the picture?
Focus on the Deal.
Thank-you

128GB with 8GB of RAM
256GB with 8GB of RAM
512GB with 8GB of RAM
1TB with 16GB of RAM
2TB with 16GB of RAM
But $80 more for 4x storage and 2x ram seems like a no brainer. I'd return if I were you.

For me, I'd have zero use for 1TB of storage, let alone 2TB. The 16gb of ram is selling point.
