Bought one of these for my mother. I received an email from eBay with the warranty information which said:
Your Certified Refurbished item(s) comes with a two-year warranty, serviced by SquareTrade, an Allstate company. Your warranty is automatically applied from the date of purchase. Simply keep this email in case you ever need to make a claim.
Since this was a gift, I registered the warranty with SquareTrade/Allstate, and then did a transfer to my mother using these instructions:

NOW, I could have done this under warranty with Roomba, to note, so I'm not going to scare anyone...but it truly becomes the thought of "....how many error 26s were these prior ones???"
OR, is this just a way for Roomba to clear out new ones under the guise of them being refurbished?

The j7 is the more traditional design; iRobot has said they're moving back to it after testing the s9's different shape and setup.
Either are excellent choices; I've owned both and likes both. I'd probably give an edge to the j7 because it's newer and getting a few more feature.
Newer robots, of course, are expected.
