The hose length is less than 3 feet so good luck not knocking it down when using. I got the vertex which the hose is a little longer but the fins on both vacuums are a gimmick. And they will rip the ends of your area rug and they put wear on a carpet when you go from hardwood floor to carpet/area rugs and vice versa unless you keep it on the hardwood floor setting until you're fully on the carpet or hardwood floor. The older ones had a brush roller which worked better and didn't growl on ends of carpet.

All that said I had to get a new vacuum and I tried both shark and the Dyson ball. The Dyson was cheap plastic, hose was an extremely bad design which will break near where you hold the hose unless you stretch the whole thing out (it's a workout) and good luck in a small bathroom. Also the Dyson was a dead weight on my area rug. Cheap plastic and I'm pushing with 20 pounds of pressure - what could go wrong? Also if you don't mind all that then be prepared: the Dyson will take you 3x's as long to vacuum than any other vacuum.

This is not true is my experience. I had a rocket for over 5 years daily use worked great. Then I bought a vertex cordless, still great. The rocket didn't even die, I just wanted a new one.

If you don't maintain your vacuum you will most certainly have problems.

Bought the Stratos about a year ago from Shark at same price. House has mix of hard surface and light colored carpet. Pets, red clay, family that "can't" remove shoes. Cleaning ability especially on carpet is my top criteria. The Stratos rules! Yeah it's loud, heavy, hot, and the hose is a tad short but it cleans the carpet way better than my Shark Navigator and that's saying something. Performance on hard surface is flawless. The Stratos beater brushes and fins are stronger than the Vertex - imo that's why it performs better and it worth the extra money.

Lots of hate for Shark online, but in my experience they are great vacuums. I've had a shark rotator for 10 years with no issues, still works as good as the day I bought it! I do clean it regularly and buy new filters once a year but I'm in for an upgrade !
