I know you need a heatsink in a PS5, but what about in a PC?

Some motherboards will have their own heat dissipation plates. A heatsink for an nvme doesn't need to be all that robust for most use cases

with heatsink, it is 60C even at idle. I have 1TB and 2B 850X, one with the heatsink comes with it, and another use the heatsink on the MB, both are hot.

This thing definitely gets hot. I have another Adata S70 blade with the performance on par and it runs like 15C~20C cooler (Idle 40C vs 55C) than 850X

I was looking for a NVMe for a laptop, so I was hoping to snag a deal on one that isn't so hot. Maybe this one isn't it?

I looked at the Samsung 970 deal, but that one also looks like it runs super hot. I'm ok if the speed isn't top of the line, I just want one that runs cooler and isn't uncomfortable on my lap and kill my battery life.

50C at idle and no heatsink. Doesn't get much hotter than that though.

In my computer Dell desktop (can't remember the model 8940?) supposedly has bad air flow. I get a temp of between 50 degrees and 55 degrees with internet browsing, YouTube and twitch. I loaded a game, but only played like less than 10 min, I saw it go up to 57 degrees. I should play longer (too busy) and see how high the temps really get.

The Dell is a Gen 3, this nvme is a Gen 4, but it easily maxes out the Gen 3 red/write speed. This might also play a factor in not getting too hot.

The Gen 3/4 might also be a factor since it can't take advantage of the full Gen 4 7,000 speed.

For anyone else who knows:

I bought this at the regular price of $59.99 over 2 weeks ago (but within 30 days) at Best Buy. Anyone know the price match policy?

I looked up the model numbers but they don't match and the Amazon link shows the same price I paid at Best Buy but with a $5 coupon.

The Newegg link also shows a $5 coupon.

I have a TB3 NVME enclosure using the 2TB version with just a small thermal pad attached to the case, it is 28C idle where room temperature is 16C. After CDM tests for about 1 min, it raises to 32C. This is the case I have an small external FAN. Without the FAN, it is just 5C more. NOTE: the NVME enclosure has better ventilation. So temperature is expected to be lower.

2TB @ $90 was the low. Buy at that price or lower only.

SK Hynix 2TB was 90 something. Not sure now. It's supposed to be best for laptops. I've used EVO and later EVO Plus in an ultrabook. Didn't feel heat was a big issue.
