FYI, GoPro Hero 12 Black should be coming out early/mid September. Rumors are a 1" sensor, which is a pretty big deal. Probably why the Hero 11 Black is on sale.

yeahhhh I wouldn't buy this with the upcoming rumor of a 1" sensor in "Hero 12". That would be nearly 4x the light sensitivity, or 2 stops in photography terms

So I made the purchase before reading this - at least Costco has a 90 day return policy, so if the 1" sensors rumors are true, I'll have some time to debate on whether to keep or return for the 12.
edit: btw, thanks for the heads up on the 12 launch, now I have 2 things to look forward to lol

As someone who doesn't know ANYTHING about GoPro, I planned on getting one to record my motorcycle rides with friends and family. What does that mean?
This is the definition of a Slickdeal. Even before the $50 reduction, this was a nicely priced package for what for now is the current generation GoPro. I had already bought this less than a month ago and Costco credited my account when I went to the service desk.
I strongly doubt the upcoming GoPro 12 will debut with a package priced this low, which puts the GoPro 11 it in the same category as the slightly weaker DJI Action 3 (the improved Action 4 alone is $399). However, if I'm wrong, Costco's 90-day return means I can still return this camera if the 12 has enough improvements to warrant a higher price perhaps.
I needed to buy this for a vacation before the new model comes out, so I didn't have the luxury of waiting or to wait for Black Friday.
Costco's pricing and return policy makes it easier to pull the trigger if this model meets your needs and budget.

Costco also has the 10 for $290 is the 11 worth the extra $50? The 10 has an external battery charger, which some seem to also value more.
You can get a third party charger for $10-20. The 11 has a larger 8:7 sensor for better horizon lock/image stabilization, and also comes with enduro batteries which has cold weather resilience which is important if you want to record any sort of snow sports.

Agree with Chui101 that the bigger sensor, stabilization and the extra Enduro battery is worth the extra chunk of change. You can get a 3 slot 3rd party charger AND up to 3 extra batteries for $30-40 more. Having an ample number or spare batteries is worth the investment and is a trade-off for having such a high caliber, rugged compact 4K/5K capable camera.
Until GoPro fixes the constant overheating, freezing, and card writing issues that have plagued their cameras since the hero 3, it's a hard pass from me. FWIW I run an adventure videography business and deploy 4 to 8 action cameras on every shoot, shooting about 14 days a month. I've owned dozens of them, and nearly every gopro I've owned has failed at some point, upsetting clients and harming my business. I wouldn't trust one to capture a family vacation, let alone anything commercial.
Sorry to be a downer, but these have been awful cameras in my experience.

But bigger sensors also generate more heat and use more power, so it's not necessarily a clear win for every situation.

- 2x Enduro Batteries
- Shorty Handgrip (Tripod)
- 64GB SD card (enough to get going)
- Compact Travel/Storage Case
