Own both the Whynter ARC-14s in storage now as backups, as well as the 14k BTU Midea units, which have replaced the Whynters at our house.
It's hard to describe how much better the Midea units are - soft ramp up for the compressor, and running at fractional compressor capabilities to maintain room temperature - the inverter compressor control is fantastic. Additionally, the Mideas are wireless enabled - you can set schedules with the app, and control them remotely. The Wynters are just hard ON at 100% capacity or OFF - there is no middle ground with them, but they are fine units - just older, less efficient technology.

Icing-up can also indicate a lack of air flow over the icy coils.
For the record, I'm just speaking "generally". Mine's never iced up. Just suggesting that a significantly dirty filter would steer it that direction.
Disappointed in both of them. In order to notice this effect, you will need to seal the window properly.
I can't understand why the condenser fan section can't be sealed properly so that there is no negative pressure.

The heat on the Toshiba is nice but you can get a much more effective space heater/

This implies that the air circulation around the condenser section is not sealed properly from the evaporator section.

I guess you've confirmed this dual hose unit doesn't work how one would normally expect it to work.
Bought another for 400 a week ago
Will buy this for 350
Great ac unit
In NJ where it gets quite humid and hot from climate change worsening every summeb
Toshiba sells a rebranded one that's quite popular on here - the only difference is is says 'Toshiba' vs. 'Midea' - identical in every other way that I can see. Other vendors do the exact same thing with his unit - it's that good. It comes in black or white - and heat pump model, or not - that's it as far as i can tell. I have the heat-pumps, so they can push out some efficient heat when needed.
