While these are reliable, dual hose units - the newer Midea Inverter based units are more efficient, quieter and move a whole lot more air.
Own both the Whynter ARC-14s in storage now as backups, as well as the 14k BTU Midea units, which have replaced the Whynters at our house.

It's hard to describe how much better the Midea units are - soft ramp up for the compressor, and running at fractional compressor capabilities to maintain room temperature - the inverter compressor control is fantastic. Additionally, the Mideas are wireless enabled - you can set schedules with the app, and control them remotely. The Wynters are just hard ON at 100% capacity or OFF - there is no middle ground with them, but they are fine units - just older, less efficient technology.

I have one of those refurbished Toshiba and haven't had a problem with the ac. The Toshiba is quieter than this one and cools down my living room pretty quickly. I don't think this is a inverter compare toToshiba which can save you money in the long run.

The Toshiba/rebranded Midea refurbished inverter one on woot that everyone is talking about is actually dual hose even though it looks like a single. It's a hose inside another much bigger hose so it's still two airstreams. So I'd believe it if the efficiency is just as good or better than this Whynter. That and the heating and wifi integration on the Toshiba work pretty nicely.

I have owned one of these for several years and ours has always had an issue that it doesn't dehumidify at all. In fact it adds a ton of humidity to the room. It gets ice cold but pretty much turns the room into a cold soggy bog.

There is never any moisture to drain from the unit so I'm not sure what the deal is. All of the reviews I have read say the exact opposite so I assume there is something wrong with ours. I wouldn't purchase it again.

If it's an enclosed like a bedroom, it works pretty well. I use this in our living room with high ceiling and maintain about 80f inside while it's 110f outside. Inside our bedroom this can bring it down to 70. Most dual hose does a pretty good job. Our living room spans to the kitchen and family room, so I got another window unit and both together can knock the downstairs temp to under 75 on 100 degree heat days.

Amazon has just raised the price by $100 to $399. Not regretting not buying it at $299 which I consider too high still. It is a massive (over 35" tall) old model (over 10 years). It is much better off to wait for Costco's inverter models on sale. I think $199 to $249 is a fair price, not $299 or $399.

fyi - i've had this model for a few years. it cools the room down quickly but not quiet at all. not ideal for anyone thinking of using this and sleeping at the same time.

Well, mine was supposed to be delivered today, and of course Amazon lists it as "problem occurred" and it's being sent back to seller. If it isn't here by the 28th, come back for updates!

And now it's returned for an unknown reason and refunded. Made it all the way to the town near my house then returned. They won't even exchange it for the same price.
