Foam gun is definitely more convenient, but you won't get the coverage and consistency of foam to stick onto the car. Also, pressure washer saves more water and if you wash your car frequently it's better to use that.
Conclusion - If you're an average user who doesn't have time or care as much about your car to be in pristine condition, this is perfect for you.

What is a good soap solution to use with this?
i have a generic amazon "snow foam cannon" that works well but it'd be a lot more convenient to skip the pressure washer step.
the pressure washer version makes thick non-watery foam that sticks to a wet or a dry car - which is what makes it worthwhile - the video here looks like just soapy water (possibly from being a high water:soap ratio)
i use the chemical guys honeydew snow foam soap - approx 5 oz per wash. the thick soap is handy as i'll foam the car and wait 10 minutes until it starts to drip - rinse it off (most of the gritty crud on the car leaves here) then foam the car again and run over it with a wash mitt and rinse.
i got the soap purely because it was on sale a year back - if anyone has a recommendation i'll happily take it!
