I like the Orient brand but not this model. I have a Mako that I've had for maybe 13 or 14 years. It's one of my favorites. Went snorkeling with it 100 times. Still looks and works great.

Just got one. Thanks OP. I really liked the white and black but this one doesnt look bad either!! Have multiple seikos but always wanted to add a panda watch to my collection. This works perfect in the budget

I've always considered Seiko and Orient automatics to be interchangeable. As always, I think it boils down to the model/specs and looks when figuring which one to grab.

Personally I like Orient's designs but crystal glass is a no go if sapphire is available!

I don't think you'll find a solar chrono with sapphire at this price. If you're interested in a Japanese chrono in this price range check out the Seiko Spirit line. Meca-quartz instead of solar but more color / design options.

Pagani Design and cheaper Chinese watch brands have sapphire glass at lower prices. Seiko is just cutting quality to increase profit margins by not including it on these Orient and also Seiko 5 models tbh.

Seiko Epson is the parent company for Seiko and Orient but they both run independently so grouping them together isn't exactly accurate. And comparing hardlex or mineral to sapphire isn't a quality comparison but a feature comparison. If you're OK with Chinese fashion watches w/o any customer service, Pagani is fine. There's no doubt you can get more bang for your buck going w/ the likes of Pagani, Sugess, Invicta - but only on paper.

Customer service? Have you had official Seiko service done? Servicing a 3 hander auto costs more than the watch and can have long wait times.
